Lightning question

My friend was just talking about a "lightning ball" he saw earlier.

"I was mowing my lawn today when I heard a thunderous boom.  I turned around, looked and approx. 50' above the ground and 50'  in front of me, there was a ball of lightning (literally a ball of electricity) that suddenly winked out of sight!  Has anyone else ever seen this?"


He lives in Boca Raton.  Florida is notorious for lightning strikes.  I'm just curious to know what this "ball of lightning" was that he saw?


I imagine it looking something like this?

After having a direct hit to the house a few weeks ago, and the discharge manifesting itself in an explosion of sparks across the front patio AND having it run in and arc between the washer & dryer (damaged paint & metal even) and spew sparks into the utility room, I'd say it was some funky strike.

Strange how the Ball Lightning in the video looks remarkably like a Fuel dump behind a Fighter jet.
