the value of your life objectively speaking, is worthless.

that is right, basically when you take a grand scheme of you and your place in the world/time and space and in the history of the world and civilization, you are insignificant and essentially expendable.

unless you are posting here and you literally change the course of human history, ie, julius ceasor, alexander the great, gengis khan, chris columbus, einstein, stalin, etc.. your existance and your "value" of life is essentially nothing.

hard to accept? you might be of great value to your close loved ones, granted that is true but the reality of the situation is outside those 5 or 10 people your life will really have no signfigance, sure you may "affect" others and such but really your life as a whole won't mean much bc they are too involved with their own lives to care.

so you ask is the doctor "worth" more than the criminal?  its relative on how you view it.. in the long run and after time they are both nothing but two people that lived and died in teh course of human history and no more.

yes we really are all that worthless.  and yes in a way that means you can do good or bad and in the long view of things nothing really matters.  and that is what scares people.

grand scheme view, maybe man wrecks the world and makes ourselves extinct in teh process.. again no big deal, bc the dinasours became extinct and in  another 2million years the planets will still be here but we won't be  and our existance won't matter at all the solar system will still exist and work like it has for the past 100 million years or so.  so in  a way, who cares? the only people that care about global warming are those with kids, otherwise why care if the world in 100 years is unhabitable, afterall i'll be long dead by then, i could care less if your kids/grandkids are dying of starvation.   [cheeky]

but all kidding aside, i think that the immdeiate value of what a person is in montary numbers are decided by insurance companies, and in the more esoteric view its valued by those you know and however you want to gauge your own happiness and value, and that changes for everyone.

I agree, that in the big big picture...we aint shit. But...

I terms of "who do I want as my neighbor?", would you want the fireman who beats his family, but might save your life, living next door to you, or Pol Pot, who happens to have a pool he lets you use when he's out of town?

We couldn't make a large impact in the grand scheme of things if we tried. Even our little shitty planet is nothing, just a field trip to bring window licking alien children to when they need to be entertained.

i would want neither really, but let's be serious usually what we want is someone that is good to us and we usually don't care what they do in their own house or time.. so most i think would pick the fireman bc its not your family he is beating and he may be helping you, and pol pot is sort of the same thing, if he killed a lot o fpeople outside of your area but was a cool guy to have at a bbq, most people again wouldn't really care so long as he never brought it home or around your kids.

I like not knowing.

I like assuming most people are good.

I like my work neighbor Mohamad.

If I found out he was funneling money to terrorists back home..... my like would not be the same.

I think that human beings' value is infinite.  It all depends on how each individual human being looks at it.  What may be something disturbing, disgusting, or anti-social to us, may be completely normal to others and vice-versa. I TRY not to judge anybody that doesn't affect me or my family directly.  I believe that we deserve/get what we dream and that we live the live that we want to live. (consciously or unconsciously)  IMO there is a positive and a negative side to everything.  For me, I try to learn from everyone.  (this includes what many people refer as "low-lifes")  Everybody can be a teacher in some way.  What pisses me off, is religions trying to control this beautiful world we live in and people that try to past themselves as someone who they really are not or hypocrites.  I truly believe that the religion is in great part to blame on how make the beast with two backsed up the world is nowadays.  Just sit down and think, how many lives have been finished in the name of Jesus or Allah amongst many other spiritual leaders.  Racism, war, hatred, people that judge others and don't judge themselves, etc, etc.  I do "discard" people that try to take advantage of me and my love ones, and liars.

The dirt has developed it's own ecology.

Pressure washers don't remove it, they just make it mad.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Some days I think maybe my life is worth a negative. Like the people around me would be better off without me ??? like if I died 20 years ago would my wife have found a better husband and would my kids have all the good qualities from my wife and none of the bad ones from me?

OR...
Would they have ended up with a fireman rapist that beats them? In this case my value just went waaaaaay up [thumbsup]

Buy me a beer and we'll call it even ;D
