its funny how we will vilify someone when we "don't agree with them" but if someone "we like" breaks the law we will make up ANY JUSTIFICATION to justify illegal acts.

ie, this case the girl hit and run, we vilify her for breaking the law and want the max sentence, which i agree with.

but then we bash a cop FOR DOING HIS JOB!! and justify SOMEONE BREAKING THE LAW.  Ok his wifes mother was dying, the guy speeds to get her to the hospital and gets pulled over, and then "uses the excuse of my mother in law is dying".. so what if he is an NFL person?   if you believe that then dont' pregnant dog about celebs getting pref treatment next time at trial you lost that argument.

I understant someon was dying but it does not give you the "right" to put others at risk, if you want to break the law do so at your own risk if it works out well then you are great, but then then when you get caught you can't say "well i deserve to be different" no you took the risk you got caught, if you didnt' you would have got there on time maybe, if get caught you rolled the dice and lost.

honestly i have to side with the LEO on teh nfl thing, he was actually doing his job and then has some guy he pulled over say "i have to get to such and such give me special treatment" you dont' do that.  that is just begging to be delayed even more.

My cousin who has been a model student and person all her life hit a parked car and ran. Her mother found out and made her go back and put a note on the car. I never thought she would do something like that  :-\

The police officer didn't do his job, and was fired for it. The player came to a stop at the light, had his hazards on, was near the hospital, and honked his horn before proceeding. All other drivers at the intersection came to a stop and realized what was going on, and have said such. The police officer held him at gunpoint in the hospital parking lot, despite nurses and doctors explaining the direness of the situation.

Similarly, following McNair around for hours to see one of his wheels touch a line and pull him over for driving intoxicated was equally absurd and the officer was disciplined. You and I 'touch' those lines on a regular basis without meaning to, and the NFL player was harassed for it. There are a couple bad seeds out there that like to "make a name for themselves" by "busting" a sports star.

No cops talk please.

This thread is not about that.

didn't mean for it to get there, just occurrences that fire me up enough to write a letter. i know they don't have much effect, but I always hope that somebody will at least read them.

No cops talk ...but that's not what happened.

QuoteRyan Moats explained that he waited until there was no traffic before proceeding through the red light.

Quotea nurse said the mother-in-law was dying right then and Moats needed to get into the hospital.

Other news coverage discussed Moats' driving in more detail, while others focus on the hospital parking lot exchange. Both this story and the issue at hand - hit and run - make me angry for the lack of compassion a person can show when presented with tragedy.

My issue isn't a cops related issue with the NFL story, its a single person who failed to show discretion, compassion, or caring to another human being who was in a life-changing situation. Its the same issue I take with the hit and run. The person caused an accident. That's bad. Saw the consequences of their actions, and proceeded to flee the scene rather than render aid, or call 911. That's much worse because it exacerbates the original problem.

Like I said no cops talk. I'm not going to debate the finer points of procedure with you but for starters the cop did not get fired. That's a pretty glaring difference. If you want to continue you can hit me via PM but I start 4 12's tomorrow so I probably won't get time to respond until Monday. My original statement stands though. If Mr. NFL would have stopped the car for 15 seconds like he was SUPPOSED to he wouldn't have to find someone to blame his actions on.

unpayed forced leave and reassigned. blah blah blah. that single individual, regardless of his employer or job title was a jerk. that sole individual, not DPD or generally police officers. the similarities i'm pointing out are two insensitive individuals crossing paths with people that need their help.

Back to the issue at hand....

I'm not going to defend the 18 yr old girl. After all, she did hit someone and run.

But after reading the news article I have to pin the blame for the 'run' in hit and run on Ms. Shanda Renee Wooten herself (the woman riding in front of our dead biker friend).  The first thing she does after the accident is to start screaming at the driver that she killed him!  If I was an 18 yr old girl who just caused a serious accident on a dark highway alone at night and a group of scruffy Harley riders made like they were about to lynch me..and then I watched a semi make hamburger of the poor guy  ....  I'd run too!  Probably also be pretty freaked out.

Having said that.....10 minutes later I would have been reporting myself to the cops........but people react to trauma in irrational ways sometimes.

My kid is not a great kid. I'm his mom. He is very apathetic about school and life. He is failing every subject in school and will not graduate next year. I do not know how to deal with him and his lack of caring. I'm the first to admit when he does something stupid. He's done some stuuuupid things.
Is it June yet?
