Drunken Monkey

Personally I think an 849/869 Street Fighter makes a lot more sense in terms of filling out the various weight & power output 'slots' in Ducati's standard bike lineup.

Monsters = Air Cooled standards
StreetFighters = Liquid Cooled standards

Also, I hear Ducati is making a motard  [evil]
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

i find that twins are much more sensitive to throttle input than other bikes.  once you achieve solidly manipulating the throttle in small increments, you're good to go.

+1 on this, the higher torque will let you get out of control quick with jerky motion...while a 4cyl might dog at low rpm, the twins are more likely to buck...causing more jerky motion and so on

I just upgraded from the 696 to a 796 with ABS and I honestly dont think I could be happier, it stops on a dime thanks to the ABS, will pull the front wheel up in 1st with no clutch (and will bounce up in 2nd) so it clearly makes more power than you need on the street, and the resculpted seat is a godsend.  Also, they went with the single sided swingarm and (imho) vastly better looking wheel design. Basically...its a tame, house broken version of the 1100.
I'm going to have to call BS on that.  I've ridden the 796 Hyper and it does not do wheelies on power alone.

IF this were true, it would be a good thing, but as a movement of the 796 to the next size as it's too close the 696

in fact. a 696, 896, 1100 lineup would make WAY more sense than the 796.

i think they would be worried about cannibalizing m1100 sales with that close of a displacement.  also, m796 worked out well because it was a drop in from the hym796

think about it though.

696 80 hp (ok at the crank)
796 81 hp
1100 100 hp

an 896 with 90 would be better

oh, i agree with you... but the 796 is 87 at the crank, so i would guess that a 896 would be around 93-94ish which would place it uncomfortably close to the 1100 i think.  because, at that point, unless you really really needed to get the adjustable suspension, a m1100 is kinda meh.  but you're right... it does make sense, but i cant see them doing it for a while.

You'll not be longing for more power with the 796.  I currently ride a 12-year old Monster 750 and it delivers enough power to keep me grinning ~

You can call BS on what ever you like, or you can meet up for a ride and watch me do it.  I dont slip the clutch to wheelie (it scares the crap out of me) and Im also not talking about reaching the balance point.  But at with me weighing 130lbs soaking wet, my 796 WILL lift the front wheel about a foot on power alone in 1st and bounce it up in second.

I just wanted to see if you would back it up.  If you say it can be done then it can be done.

I'll back the wheelie thing up further, my old Monster 750 will power wheelie.  Not big, we're only talking a few inches, but it will still do it.   It's got less power than ALL of the current Monsters.

i think it's interesting they are saying that for the 796 now, when it first came out it was like 81 and then 84 i had seen.
still a 10hp spacing between them would be better.

the 1100 non evo doesn't really matter as it's out of production already.

in the end. the evo motor is just starting to be exploited, bet you see it go up over the next couple of years leaving room for an 896 and dropping the 796.. maybe the HM will inherit it as well. or they could take the HM down to 696 to cut a little weight (ie no oil cooler, etc)
