I think Soldier that you should have sticked with the ducati brand no matter how pissed you were at the Ron and the rest of the people bashing your 696. Do you even remember why you bought a Ducati in the first place? Swallow your pride (with all due respect), and get yourself an S4R ! The sooner the better for your piece of mind. You know this is the right choice after you keep coming back to post on this THE DUCATI MONSTER forum. You love the monster and your triumph is not a replacement, no other bike will be for that matter. We all forgive you man...we know it's the Ron's fault.. [evil] [thumbsup]

I have an '02 Speedy (955) and my wife has an '04 S4R. On the dyno my speedy with a Zard gets 113 peak and her Duc with stock pipes gets 107 .  The speedy has a much flatter/smoother power delivery.  Speedy's HP line is pretty much a constant slope all the way to the limiter, while the Duc seems to have 3 steps.  (though I think my peak was limited by the OEM filter i was running.  I've since added a K&N and will do another tuning to see the difference.)

Speedy has close to 20K on it, with no issues, the Duc is up to just over 12K.  I just dropped $1300 on the 12K tune up, that's something for you S4R owners to look forward to, well that and the dry clutch is more obnoxious than the Sampson  Ripsaws on my Harley.

They are both fun bikes, the Ducati is going to cost you more in maintenance.  For the money, I paid 2/3 the price of the S4R for Speedy, at that rate I'll do it again and again.

I will say that Couple of months ago at the Penguin school I did enjoy driving by all of those air cooled Ducs in the straights.   Now, I am seriously looking at 848 and the 1098   [beer]

As to those who know someone who had something go wrong or read it on the internet. How far do I have to go on any site dedicated to one particular bike to find someone pregnant doging about something.

Edit:  Please note that this post has been modified from what I wrote.  The words I used in the last line have been changed,   I'll stick to thespeedtriple.com to talk about bikes.  Overmoderated sites are not for me
Between my wife and I:

'02 Speed Triple (Blue)
'02 FXDWG (Black, Chrome, Loud)
'91 F2 600 (red/white0
'04 S4R (Blue/white)

What was the cost of the 12K tuneup/valve check/reshimming on the speed tripple?

The power-to-weight ratio of the S3? 113H.P./450+Lbs (wet and ready to go)=.25 H.P. per pound
The '04S4R is 425 wet and ready to go... and at 107H.P. that works out to be: .25 H.P. per pound

Let me make it clear. What I did was open options and look at other bikes the are available for me at the time.
I look at the MV Agusta Brutale 910R, Aprilla Shiver, Ducati S4R tricolor and Triumph Speed Triple.
Went to each dealer and look at bikes, did some research and frequent forum sites of each bike.
It was a tough decision. These bikes have different things to offer and are all topnotch in quality.
It went down to the best value, looks, power, ergo's and overall quality.
I finally decided to get the Speed Triple. At the end of the day it really does not matter what a person rides.
It's all about enjoying and having fun riding. I attend Ducati meets in my area very chance I get.
Most of my moto buddies are Ducati owners that love to drink, ride and bs about motorcycles. [beer]

triples are nice, but you know you'll end up with a Duc so just do it.  s2r1000 would be a good bike too, and less expensive maint. than the 4V'ers.  Whatever you ride dude, ride safe and come hang out.  People usually say shi7 on boards they wouldn't do in person, so don't take anything personally,  I ride with a bunch of people who ride duc's bmw's jap's, when you're out on the road it really doesn't matter as long as you enjoy the ride.  We go ride alot and if you feel comofortable with small group rides come on out.  Ducatisf.com

707 Soldier is really a teenage boy in his mothers basement with nothing better to do then bug a bunch of people on motorcycle forums.  He's on the MV forum thespeedtriple.com, trat probably and I'm sure an aprilia site as well.  We'd probably get rid of him if we could over at TS3, but our forum really doesn't have rules, if we banned him, we'd all be gone.   Good luck with all the lame threads he's gonna start.

I have a funny suspicion he was hoping to get the "WOW" factor from us folks.  Don't go to a nice Restaurant and walk in with some Carl's Jr. thinking everyone is gong to want one or embrace you...does not happen. Your going to get mixed results. Just suck it up and move on friend.
