Why yes, it is dangerous

« on: September 10, 2008, 12:52:38 AM »

I was in a bar chatting up a girl when the topic of transportation came up.  Mentioned I had a motorcycle and her response was "I bet it's a Ducati".  So I started to wonder, what do we look like?  What is it about us that says he/she owns a Ducati and not a Harley (as is very common where I live) or a Japanese bike?  And no I wasnt wearing my moto gear or have my Duc keys out....

Better than average grooming and clothes?

Works the opposite for me, I dress like a skater at work, and everyone assumes that I ride some beat-up piece of shit. Surprises them when they do see me on the Monster, that is for sure.

Stopintime looks like a Ducati rider though, which is how I recognised him in Oslo!

That would do it.

I'm pretty sure I don't have "the ducati look".  The usual reaction when someone sees me with my bike is more along the lines of "are you sure that's yours"?

I know I don't have the "look". My wife says I just don't look like a sportbiker......I'm more of a scuzzy Harley rider.....and I have one of those, too.   laughingdp

In girltalk that is a nice way of saying you look damn good. Try telling a girl she looks like she would only own Chanel - you'll see what I mean waytogo

I've never been labled as a rider, takes the kids & new faculty each year forever to put me with the bike.  I even have 2 Ducati polo shirts.  The faculty just refer to me as the 'quiet one we worry about'  laughingdp

i definitely dont fit the "ducati" look.  i look more like a punk that rides a clapped-out 95 ninja with broken plastics.  i have long hair, ive needed to shave for about a month, but it always looks that way, huge holes in my ears, and generally dirty looking clothes (75% of the time im wearing clothes that have oil stains on them and/or holes).

i look like that dirt poor kid everyone knows that works crappy manual labor jobs because he hates dressing nice and hates dealing with 7 different bosses everytime something goes wrong...  wait, that is just like me.

You've got a scuzzy Harley rider? I've always wanted one of those. You keep him in the basement, kinda like Pulp Fiction?

I have noticed it not the look but the way you act, for example a sport biker always lugs around his helmet and says that he likes to do 170+ down the highway.  A harley driver well you know what they look like.  The Ducati'ist that we are, are always cool and collected (most of us any way) and just go yeah i ride and thats the end of it.  So thats how s/he knows that we ride a Ducati.
