Happy ending: On patrol at 4AM and I see a dog standing in the middle of Pacific Coast Highway. That's unusual. I deal with unusual. Pull up and hit the air horn to scare him onto the sidewalk and out of harms way. Nope. Not gonna budge. Throw on the lightbar so other cars will slow down and hopefully not hit him and try the air horn again. Still no compliance!  :) Call him over and see that he is well cared for. He is brown with a white chest and is a pit bull terrier. Ever careful with strange dogs, I call for animal control and while waiting try to talk him into the back of my car. After a few cautious attempts I finally just suck it up, get out, and try "pack leader". "Get in the car buddy, lets go for a ride," trying my best to exude confidence. Of course he jumps right in. Thank you Caesar Milan.  Take him to the station where we have a kennel and give him some food and water. Animal control shows up and luckily he has on a local dog license. "Saber" is his name and the cool animal control guy drove him home. Nice when they turn out this way. Usually I am left hoping they make it out of the pound.

Indeed, very nice story! Good job by you and the Animal Control officer. It never hurts to earn animal karma points. You both will be justly repaid in your next life. ;D
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Otto had his first acupuncture treatment yesterday.

He is still favoring his left hind after his fall last week.  The pain is mostly in his knee, not hip, as originally thought.

He got another x-ray and radiology consult.

Should have got pet insurance a couple weeks ago.   [bang]

He goes back on Thursday for an other needle session.

Pet insurance is way too expensive than what it can offer. But on the other end, the more people get it eventually the prices will go down. If only they could cover more.

Poor little guy.  I hope you have the same success we have had w/our B-man.

We talked about pet insurance when we got him.  Didn't get.
What are the chances we'll ever need it?  Pretty slim, right?

Would have saved us a LOT of money with his freak, one-in-a-million orthopedic issues.

Ah well.  Can't look back.

Keep us posted on how the little squirt progresses!

Yesterday's news:

Owner of Dogo Argentino lets "max" off leash at a park who then chases a coyote.
The two run onto an ice covered pond but fall through.
Owner calls 911
Rescue comes to the aid of the dog and all is good.

Until.

TV station wants to "interview" rescued dog and fireman.
TV anchor gets in dogs face.
Dog displays dislike
Dog bites anchor's face - live on TV.
Anchor in fair condition.

Dog, already traumatized by 30 minutes swimming in freezing water with a helicopter flying overhead
then by a bustling TV newsroom 12 hours later
is now quarantined at the city pound for 10 days.

Rumor mill has it that Max will go back to owner after quarantine period.
Owner issued multiple citations for yesterday and today.
