We are going through the housebreaking deal now.  When its -8F out, I think he says to himself   "Self - I don't care how much trouble I get in - I'm pissing on the floor - its fricken cold out there - the Boss gets to piss in that warm room with the white water dish - WTF"  He's coming along ok - just been about a decade since I had to go through this.

If it were -8 here, I might piss on the floor too.  laughingdp

Thought i would give an update on our Leonberger pup. For those not familiar with the Leonberger. They are originally from Germany and considered to be a giant breed. The big males can get up to ~160bls.

We have had him with us for over one year. Am happy to say that we managed to put him on a scale last week and he came in at 127bls. Normal for a 14 month old male. The vet says he still has another 10-20bls to go.

To look like a lion really. Hence "Leon"berger. From a town in Germany. Leonberg. They are in the working group. Same as the St. Bernard and Newfie.

My first guess was they were bred to eat allied tanks.

Holy crap, 160?!?  He must eat like....well, like a 160 pound teenager.

Great looking dog Smiley

He is a handsome devil! Love the black mask. There is an old saying that the Monsters on here look like their owner's dog  Grin  Great paint scheme on the bike btw. Cool rustic/stressed colour accent. Funny. We wanted an English or Tibet Mastiff prior to the Leo. But the Leo became available. All I knew was that I wanted a BIG dog!

We do keep him on a raw diet. We are lucky as we have a friend that slaughters cows every other month. So he gives us all the insides. Perfect food. His fav is the stomach. Green tripe they call it. It smells horrible!  vomit. But the dog loves it.

Hi All,  Browsing around on the web this morning I found this article about the "doodle" mixes.  I wanted to link it up here in case any of our members were thinking of getting one.  Always good to know what you are about to get into.

The headline is "The Heartbreaking Truth About Those Cute Doodle Dogs".  This is a tiny excerpt of the story I am linking to.

With all the breeds and crossbreeds in the world, Conron says, he is horrified at the proliferation of labradoodles and the other poodle mixes. He blames himself for "creating a Frankenstein.” Instead of breeding out problems, he said, clueless and unscrupulous breeders are breeding them in. "For every perfect one," he says, "you're going to find a lot of crazy ones."
