I'm glad to hear that Maggie is on the upswing - looking forward to hearing more from Stella (and seeing more pics)!

Here is a video of a dog guarding his injured buddy after the tsunami in Japan.

東北地方太平洋沖地震 被災した犬たち help for dogs

From what I have read the healthier dog was seen biting at the waves until they receded. And both dogs have apparently been rescued and are doing well. If only we could all have a friend so loyal. Good boy, little doggie.

This pic is of Kipmik (Kip) and me, taken about 10 years ago.  Kip was my first Husky.  When I moved to Texas
I knew he couldn't make the change from Alaska.  He was too old to adjust to the heat so I left him with some dog lovers that really wanted him.  I just heard that he passed on.  He was old and in decline and I have to say he passed on at a good time, in his old age.  He was much like the dogs in the Jack London books.  He saved my life twice.  He once ran off a bear just before I was about to stumbled into it and he pulled me out of the wilderness during a winter storm at midnight.  He also had his less then heroic moments.  We once set out on a 3 day wilderness hike.  We both carried packs.  His had all the food.  He disappeared for less then 5 minutes.  When he returned his pack and the food was gone.  The next day we did 20 miles and ate a few berrys.  An attractive woman who had heard some of the kip stories once approached me at a meeting to ask about Kip.  I later married that woman.

Kip, it was good to know ya!

If the dogs are so sick they die from lack of proper medical care, that is imminent danger.

The dog I had last week was picked up off the streets several days prior.  She was already knocking on death's door.  I don't think any of the dogs who stay long term are ever left in the rescue kennel in an "imminent danger" state.  As far as I know...

The one I have now, I know doesn't have kennel cough but the Frau, w/o seeing him, said that's what she has..."pick up some meds from me...don't go to the clinic and waste your money."     [roll]

I know Stella hasn't posted in this thread since last night, and I'm out of town, but she's sent some texts & pics today of a much improved Maggie.  She's on antibiotics of some sort and they seem to be working.  [thumbsup]

Whether or not is because she is a little under the weather, she has mellowed out a little bit, which we hope is a result of her having a little normality/schedule in her life.

I can tell you that I was just at dinner down on Hermosa Pier in SoCal and with all the dogs people were walking down there tonight, I really miss the two maniacs back home.  :'(

You THINK you miss the two maniacs.  There's only one maniac (unless you were referring to me) and I would be grateful (sort of) if her fever spiked just a bit to mellow her out again.  She literally just bounces off the walls, skids across the floors, hurdles the sofa in one leap, ....cannot settle down....even after 3-1/2 mile walk/run and multiple long walks a day (and she was just spayed on Friday).  She's insane.  I know why she was a stray.  I need to work more on her training but new job is nuts right now....  uh.  But she's not in the crap kennel.

There are "normal" dogs, there are bouncy dogs, there are protective dogs, crazy dogs and "stepford wife-type" dogs.  Very few are remarkable dogs.  RIP Kipmik.  You were one remarkable dog.  So sorry to hear AK....    :'(

Here's to the many great adventures you two shared.  [wine]

I hope my story about Kipmik makes no one sad.  His life or his end was not tragic.  I hope that when it is my time I also get to go quietly in my old age.

OMG!  Cuteness!  The little white puppies have the most perfect Snoopy noses.   :)

I'm just getting back to this thread.  Been kinda crazy lately in my world.

My grandma just died, leaving behind her 17 year old Chihuahua, Suzy.  The little critter just cried and cried for days - more of an agonizing wail, and wouldn't eat anything.  I'm up in Alaska working (just flew back for the funeral and to try and help my dad sort through some of her stuff), so my kid sis is the one doing all the caring for her.  She finally got Suzy to eat brown gravy.  It was the only thing she'd eat for days, and now she's  progressing to leftover meat, but only if it is hand-fed to her.

It's heartbreaking to see how many senior dogs end up in shelters, scared and sad.  Stella and Randimus, you are awesome for taking in such a frail old one.  Somebody must've loved her once, and I'm glad she got to feel a little love again before she died.

Quoting the great Rat900:  Rotisserie Chicken!

Sorry to hear about your grandma but I bet she's happy that the "pup" is still with family and being cared for as best as you/they can.  Seriously, tell your sister to get the rotisserie chicken from the store - it was the only thing the old girl would take (hand fed of course because she was so frail).  I also deboned it and heated it back up with chicken stock and she still took it.   [thumbsup]

More cute puppy pictures are due!    ;)
