Me and my wife have decided to try and get a rescue Scottie.  Ours passed last march and I've put in an application to the Tennessee Scottish terrier rescue site.  They have a few but I'm really wanting to get a boy.  We have a female westie so it may be easier to mix a male and female.  They have a male named Duffy but seems that another family may be interested.  We'll see how it goes.  I'll post updates if we end up getting one.  I was hoping the process of adopting a rescue would be quicker, but seems like it's gonna take some time.

For the second time in her lifetime, Watson got attacked today by a neighbor's off-leash dog while on leash, in front of our house.  :(  >:(

Last time she was 4-5 years old, she went belly-up and got a bite taken out of her chest by a Lab.  This time (13.5 years old) she defended herself and got a bite out of the back of her leg by a pitbull.  MrI took her to the emergency vet this time to get stitched up.  They are now on their way home, about 8 hours after the incident.

Pitbull had followed a different neighbor (not the owner) over to our place, was running around upsetting our dogs, so kiddo (on my back) and I took them for a walk.  We were coming back and in our driveway when the neighbor's dog suddenly appeared (she had been behind our house) and went straight for Watson.  There was not much I could do to protect her, especially with the kid and both dogs.  Luckily Grover was unhurt.  M was upset at the whole thing, took a while to calm him down.

Wow I am sorry to hear that...hate when this kind of stuff happens...

also hate dog owners who don't take responsibility for their animals

for some dog breeds...the bottom line is there is no such thing as "casual" ownership,,,,,there is a hard and fast requirement for pro-active anticipatory management

.....and for someone to let them run loose or figure if they got out "they'll come home eventually" is criminal
This is an insult to the Pez community

i'm sorry to hear that too... :( get well soon watson

Simple fix. Shoot it. That wound is not small and the owner should pay. I would call the Sheriff's office and report it too.

I hate how people who live out in the country think a dog walk is letting their dog out the door to run around and then hope it comes back.

Sorry to hear that M was upset. I hope he never has a run in with a neighbors dog.

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

Sorry to hear about Waston, P.

I would definately fine a report local  [leo].

They should at least pay the vet bill and get a ticket for an unleashed dog.

Here's to a speedy recovery.   [thumbsup]

A nightmare experience.  Can only imagine what would be spinning through my mind while also knowing I had a wee one on my back...

Sad all the way around.  Poor Watson!!!

And sad that the irresponsibility of the owners could lead to the dog's demise.   >:(

As much love as he gets from you, give him a little more lovin' from me!

Sorry to hear bout Watson somegirl; hope Watson recovers fast ...  [thumbsup]

If it had been my dogs being attacked, I think I had used my gun to take care of the pitbull; I've seen pitbulls as sedate as a goldfish and some as aggresive as a pirana ... Many owners in my residnetial have bigs dogs, male and female, and these go and do their bussines in others [including mine] lawn ... the owners say, 'it's not my dog's doing' ...

Somegirl - Sorry to hear about Watson.  I understand the emotion that says shoot the mo-fu dog but that really isn't a practice solution and it will really piss off the neighbor.  But, I have been faced with similar problems in my neighborhood.  My wife and I both run several days a week.  My wife runs with our two giant huskies so she has no problems with either 4 or 2 legged trouble makers.  I on the other hand have been harassed by off leash dogs.  A couple of weeks ago I started carrying a bear size can of pepper spray.  I've now sprayed 3 dogs and it does make an impression on them.  2 of them don't even bother to bark at me and one now barks but keeps his distance.
