What kind of lens are you shooting to get them at that range?

It is a 80-400mm on a Nikon D300. The above pic was from the D50 with a 28-105

This is a great size comparion. The two C-130's waiting to take off are dwarfed by the shuttle/747.

That's an old ship man. I watched the Endeavor land from it's maiden voyage at Edward's AFB about 14 or 15 years ago. I'll never forget it either.

I am from Kissimmee and watched the 1st take off of Endeavor (it was a night launch, if I remember right.) It was scrubbed several times, and my parents got tired of making the drive  ;D

I have probably watched a dozen launches, but this was the first time I was able to see the piggy back on the 747. I am fortunate to have seen it, since the shuttle is going away  :(

16 years ago.... and it's the "young" one.

fwiw, it's "endeavour," named after this ship: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HM_Bark_Endeavour

Yeah the shuttle's body is designed to be the air foil as well, so it wont have a giant wingspan.  And it comes in hot when landing, it takes the whole 2 mile runway in Cape Canaviral.
I live vicariously thru myself......
