Did they do it for a medal or because they cared?

Just sayin'.

This I do not know. I believe at the time they were famous enough to not do that for the media hype or whatever. Before they became infamous, they were relatively humble folks from a small town. I don't know them personally, maybe one of the DMF experts does.

I was just asking hypothetically.

Their business has grown exponentially with their tv coverage.

Good for them....

I have no problem with it, and don't know them either.

If I had the cake to build a bike to make kids in a hospital happy on Christmas I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I probably wouldn't have it on my website...that's all.

Wow, I'm amazed at all the negative responses. I've never seen any other shop build bikes as unique as the ones that they make. There's only so many ways that you can paint a tank on a chopper or only so many degrees that you can rake out the forks on a bike. These bikes are an expression of creativity; not ones that you'd see roll up next to you at a stop light. As many people who post up on here for the projects that they're working on, you'd think some people would appreciate the work that goes into something like this.  Undecided

As a prior metal fabricator I can appreciate the work; however, this bike is absolutely horrible!! I get what they do. They build rolling billboards for companies and organizations that are trying to capitalize on the popularity of choppers (or one time popularity of...). Give me the equipment and resources they have and I could come up with something like that too, but with much more class. It isn't rocket science to say, "Uh, heh, yeah, I got it! Let's fab a tank that looks like a fire truck or a Stealth bomber and stick it onto a stretched chopper frame with some CNC cut wheels! Brilliant!!).

Nobody gave them the equipment they have now. They started as a small business and worked hard to get where they are.

Instead of asking someone to give you the equipment, try working for it.

Yeah, let's make a hideously stupid bike, but put a Santa on it and take it to sick kids in the hospital.  That makes it okay to make hideously stupid bikes (oh, and stupid hideous bikes).

I wish I had a dollar for every time some hack politician cloaked his crap behind, "Think of the children!"

Look, the OCC boys are successful business men.  Good on 'em.  They do some community service stuff.  Good on 'em.

But on their show, the play boorish clowns that make hideous machines.

You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, and community service won't cure 99% of their bikes of being fetid piles of crap.

Dude, if you LIKE those bikes, fine.  Own it.  But don't go sanctimonous on us about stuff that has nothing to do with the aesthetics (or decidedly lack thereof) of the machines they cobble together.

I'm just saying.

Not so much, but being a bit vitriolic, no?

I assume you've never ridden one of their  bikes, so how do you know it actually is a pile of crap?

Vitriolic?  I prefer acerbic.

Never assume anything.  Few get to ride their OCC bikes.  The one I've sat on wouldn't even start.  They Most OCC bikes are after all are not even built to be ridden.  They go to a corporate showroom or an enclosed trailer.

How do I know those bikes are piles of crap?  Well for one, the geometry (both of aesthetics and engineering) are there for all to see.  For two: Many miles on Harleys, Big Dogs, and choppers of all types, and some formal training .  One doesn't have to sample every one of infinitely many examples of a form to know the form.

Do you have to have sex with a woman before you know she's ugly?

No.

Fan mail from my inbox:

First off, I like there bikes and I really don't give a make the beast with two backs what you think about them, but you must like them enough to watch the show, search their website etc. Do us a favor and build something better, if you have the ability, which I doubt or you would be in your shop and not bashing other people's bikes on the internet.

You shouldn't get your panties all in a knot and take it personally that I hate those bikes.  I haven't said one deragotory thing about you, but you gotta bust out with, "...if you have the ability, which I doubt..." etc.  Dude, what are you, in the 7th grade?  You really outta grow up, or at least grow skin thick enough that you don't take such offense at what people say about machines built by people who ain't even you.

If however, you insist on talking smack on a personal level, you really should set the bar a bit higher.

In any event, your personal message to me seems to contradict that you don't give a f...

For the record...

1)  I have built bikes, even posted a pic of one on the thread.  Lots of people (even my friends) think that particular bike I built sux.  So what?  I don't take personally that they don't share my tastes in all things.  Besides, IT'S JUST A MACHINE.

2)  I haven't seen their show in years because, well, they are all the same show really: Paulie's late; Paulie's here; Senior yells; everyone goes to the fair, or to a shooting range, or something totally unrelated to the build of the week; back to work, the bike is behind schedule.  Same drill, every show.  Yawn.  Then they roll out a piece of crap machine.

3)  First time to their website after reading this thread.  It really is like looking at a car wreck as you drive by; one of life's guilty pleasures.

4)  Your enjoiner that I should build something better instead of "bashing" the OCC product line is just silly.  (I have built something better, at least as far as I'm concerned, and that's all that counts.)  Your's is a hackneyed and juvenile idea that holds the implicit premise that one cannot criticize what one cannot do.  And that's not only stupid, it's a standard no one can live up to (or should even try).  For example...

Let's say you are not an airline pilot, but you're on a commercial flight and you notice that the pilot is drunk and puking on his shoes.  Now, do you 1) Complain?  Or 2) Go to flight school?

In other words, I don't have to be a race car driver to recognize that Dale Earnhardt would have been better off not hitting that damn wall.

So, I suggest in the spirit of friendship that you man up and not take it personally that those bikes are ugly and I called them on it.

It ain't about you dude.  (But hey, this is kinda fun!)

The whole point of a "Personal Message" (PM) is that it's PERSONAL and shouldn't be posted for all to see...
