I have fallen victim to the cat stealing epidemic  Cry My 93 Toyota was parked off of Broderick  in SF for 2 days and Monday morning I got in to find that it was missing its cat. Cut clean out, that sucker was loud when I fired it up .
Now some crackhead is in la la land with the money from my truck part and I am stuck putting in a replacement for a few hundred bucks.

Be careful, 4runners and 4x4 toyotas are targeted for the cat. It apparantly gets the most money at the unscrupulous scrap yards.

Bummer, that sucks.  I heard about this"epidemic" in the news... maybe I should lace my catalytic converter with some toxic chemical, cyanide... etc.

Trucks are easy to crawl under,
Cant you just replace it with a piece of flexible steel exhaust pipe & two U clamps from the Auto store? Or will that cause the computer to freak?

That solution would work fine. He'd just have to put a piece of tape over the check engine light that would be glaring at him incessantly.  Wink

it's not about the drugs, it's about the platinum:

This has been happening in my company's parking lot, which is in a very nice area in Silicon Valley. Apparently, there are professional gangs doing this, not crackies.

Sounds exhausting.

What Ryan was saying...

The meth heads are stealing the cat, to sell it to a scrapper/recycler, and using the money to buy more meth.

So at least here in Portland, it is indeed about the drugs.

Think catalytic convertors are bad?  The wankers here also started stealing high-current copper electrical couplings from the light rail system.  Roll Eyes
