we assume that because people are good in one thing, they're good in a lot of things, you know, role models. 

he's a swimmer.  lungs of steel. 

why should we assume he's infallible? 

wouldn't hurt to realize people are people and let's have some tolerance.  if he did something illegal, then let him pay like everyone else.  no more, no less.  also, no more hype, no less hype.  Press stories just reinforce that he should be perfect.

Awfully political looking threads around here lately   I am not complaining.

Anyways, weed is in no way, shape, or form performance-enhancing, unless you are "performing" an entire bag of Doritos.  As far as his swimming career goes, his medals should be regarded as being won despite and not because of the marijuana cigarette drugs he illegally smoked.
As for leakage of incriminating photos, he needs to be more discreet or find some better friends.

Personally I don't really care if he smokes or not. I am sure his sponsors care and he just lost them all

I don't care that he did it.  He's an incredible swimmer.  But..there's the evidence.

The evidence that he would be even better had he never touched the stuff...

Kinda like bagging on Lance Armstrong for his toxin injections (if you think it should be banned from the sport).

Frankly, I could care less what he does with his own body on his own time. Don't think anyone's going to make a believable case that this in any way affects his athletic performance. Nor do I think it makes him any worse of a role model than, say, a parent or uncle who gets piss drunk in front of kids.
