Looks like the 696 is the only one that pulls right to the red without that slight drop ~

If any one in the north east is interested BCM Ducati in New Hampshire  has got a red 1100s if you give them a call they'll probably quote the best price around for one. I got nothing but good things to say about this shop, you won't find a better place in the northeast, for value and exceptional service. I've had a 620 Dark for the past 6 years now..with a stock seat and nothing that really adjusts.  The Ohlins on the "S" sounds tempting. 

However, that extra $2K might got better towards a set of CF Termis and a few other mods?

how much do the tank panels cost?  would a dealership be able to swap out a red tank for the white tank?

Maybe, but I doubt the one on the 1100S costs is worth that much. I've read that OEM öhlins aren't the same 'quaility' (internal components) and the one on the 1100s doesn't have compression damping.

I'm not sure where that info came from, but it's wrong on a stock 696.  I believe that the DP ecu bumps the redline to 10,5.  My 696 pegs out around the 9250-9500 range like that graph.  It's less than 1k over the peak hp numbers so not a lot of overrev on the bike.
