I've been somewhat productive for the past week or so.

Tractor is serviced...mower is repaired and did some mowing...field tilled...the transition on the porch roof is framed (needs a few nailers)...

and I'll put up the last few pieces of trim on the bay window this morning.

fantastico!!  [thumbsup]
whatcha planting?

Not sure. My friend Corey got this field to use for a garden. It's about a 1/4 acre. We're thinking corn and pumpkins...stuff to sell.

Sounds like a plan dp.  We've got a local farmers market and I've seriously considered using one of the old silage/hay fields for some stuff to sell.  I've got access to Grandad's tractor and aroun 30-40 acres of good bottom land with a creek.   When I retire I plan on farming for sure!

From experience...

get a soil test...old hay fields can be deficient in the stuff veggie type crops need to do well.

That's the one thing I'm a little nervous about with this piece...no soil test. :-\

We'll find out.

I've thought about that.  Local extension ag office could likely do that.  It would do hay, then corn and the next year it was leased for tobacco and the other field did hay and corn, next year switched back.  Currently it just grows grass and gets mown twice a year.

Si, but I'm going in for only a little while then packing up the office to bring home to work.

Sounds more than somewhat productive

You weren't too thrilled with your last attempt at corn, got a different plan in mind for thieving varmints?

Which ones?

The crows or racoons?

Crows are easy.  Kill on, tie it up on a stick somewhere in or around the field.  They likely won't be back for a season or two.

Raccoons?  Good luck with those crafty little bastards...

The racoons seem to be plenty busy figuring out how to get in to my garbage. [bang]

As well fed as they are maybe they won't be interested in the corn.
