I also picked up the new cakebread cab (probably my favorite domestic wine), but it's not exactly cheap

We tend to stay away from the domestics, and go for the great value options from Spain, Chile, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and NZ.

I think we may have had a Tres Picos.
