Ah, so the fight happened elsewhere? I get it. It was a resident possum I take it.

More likely fox or dog than another possum I woulda thought.

Cats are too wussy for a feisty possum.  Cats like smaller wildlife.

Yep a resident. Blood trail starts where it goes out at dusk. I have cleaned my tools and around my bike so far.

Regarding possums, it's the heavy breathing like an axe murderer that is the funniest. Had a girl stay with us from inner city Sydney who ran into our bedroom shouting "there's a crazy guy outside my window! I can hear his mouth breathing like a maniac!"
