Usually not....
This is a weekend maintenance weekend....
We get to work when no one else is here....

Sorry to hear about the 996...

So no cheap easy good replacement motors around?
Lucky you.

No...and the 996 SBK motors, different cases from the ST's and Monsters, are getting kind of 'long in the tooth' so anything you buy would need to be gone through, or take a chance.

This bike is on it's 4th owner and didn't see a lot of maintenance from a couple of them.

I just have to start cruising ebay and see what things are worth and decide if it goes down the road in parts or gets fixed.

I really like the bike, but I'm feeling a little let down by my Duc trackbikes.  :-\

While I do enjoy a good duc...from an engineering standpoint I find them pretty much inferior.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

All you BMW nerds say that. :-*

Have you ever ridden a Duc SBK...fast?

You'd forget about some of the engineering shortcomings.

Not unless an S4R counts. I've never considered myself fast though.

I guess you can say I road a monster marginally competently.

I'm over the BMW thing too-the only decent ones they made are either older or don't have a final drive. Lifetime fluid my ass.

There's an XT225 in the garage that can sit for six months and just start and run fine every time. I kinda like that.

Not the sitting part.

The SBK chassis is very different from the Monster. It is very truck like at slow speeds and gets better the faster you go. My bike didn't have any issues from sitting. It had issues from lack of maintenance fro previous owners.

Kinda working  ;D

I quite like the tech in the s1000r....
Could be a fun next bike. Or the Super Duke R, or the new Tuono.

I need an old man riding position so rules out all the superbikes.....

I wouldn't want an SBK for the street.

I love the look, but super impractical...
Would love a 1299  ;D

I do not need the power of any modern bike...

I agree...I can crash a 100hp bike just as easy as a 200hp bike. :P

IF I were to replace Monster, it would be R Nine T.
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

I can't seem to part with my Monster.  That being said, I really wish I had picked up that 916 that needed a little TLC but I was afraid of the 4-valve motors at the time due to cost of maintenance (I do my own now) complexity of the 4V motors.  I'm sure I could learn to work on them now though.
