You don't need to outrun the bear.  Just your hiking partner.

I have seen one black bear, just its hind end as it ran away.
Have smelled more than one.

Only one wild bear sighting for this one.  I was impressed with my bravery.  From within the car going down the road.   ;D



12 hour day complete.  Beverage mixed and contemplating some housework since moths interrupted the usual chores this past weekend.

I'm not recalling ever seeing a bear on the loose, only zoo and animal park.
I've seen The Revenant.
I'm OK with never seeing a bear in the wild in person.
Seeing them from a fast train would be nice.

I've been astounded by pics of folks hand feeding wild(ish) bears.
It's like people who have big cats as pets, I wonder if they've ever had a regular housecat.
You can die horribly at any moment, and I find that environment really stressful.

I had an encounter with a Puma when I worked in construction years ago.

He was a pet at a neighboring property.  We stopped by to visit after our work was done.

You can imagine my shock when he grabbed my arm an pulled it right to his mouth.  :o

He just want to lick my sweaty arm, or at least the salt off of it.

Big cats have very large and scratchy tongues!

What happens when that cat gets spun up and needs to run around the house?

Are there little trapdoors through the floor strategically located around the house, so you can drop down out of the danger zone?
