I like the penny idea.

No air tools Ni?

I'm guessing the engine is out of the bike, right?

Talked to Dave at Ducati Seattle.  He will take my bike on commission and sell it for 15%. This way I do not have to deal with the  buyers and Dave makes some $ in this economy.  Anything over my class cost is gravy.

Stu -- looking at your electrical project makes me feel all inadequate, but...

Finally got the Honda Regulator/Rectifier wiring figured out & spliced into the Ducati harness to revive the ST2 yesterday. Turned the key, thumbed the starter and everything roared to life despite sitting for the winter with only a half-assed winterization & the multimeter showing a basically dead battery (I'm pretty in love with Odyssey gel batteries now). Ran the motor for 15 minutes and kept checking the output at different RPMs and all the numbers made me very happy.

Now I just have to build a bracket for the R/R that keeps it cooler than the stock location, wash the dust off the bodywork, reassemble and  [moto]

All of what I do is just as simple as what you did....it's just that there's a LOT more of it!

Congrats!  [thumbsup]

I've crushed pennies because they were too thin...  Nickels work too.

Hey Knight...

When you get the head off, let me know.  I have some 750 valves here that could possibly fit your 620 head but I don't know if they changed the valve diameter or stem length.  Measure up the bent one and let me know....

i was afraid to use a nickel because of the steel. i didn't want to bend of mess up the teeth.
as i recall, the valves were a diff diameter, but if they are the same then i have my old 750 heads to scavenge from.
i didn't want to have to have the head machined....mainly because i ahve no idea where a shop that would do such a thing is located. not do i trust any random one out of the yellowpages.

the engine is actually back in the bike right now.
taking it out is a pain in the lower back since i have noone nearby that can come help me. plus, i already took it out and put it back in once. i dont' want to do that again. [laugh]

and i rent. i have no air tools.
i know people who do have them, but getting the biek there is an issue.

FWIW, modern nickels are copper and nickel...  well, Canadian ones are now plated steel, I think, and there's some move afoot to change the composition of the U.S. nickel since it's got more than 5 cents worth of copper in it...

Here's what id do.

Pull that side cover off to expose the flywheel nut.  get your breaker bar and an extension (that means pipe)

Get a couple friends over.

Put one on the bike and have him/her stand on the rear brake (with the bike in first gear)

friend #2 stabilizes the bike just in case.

you give it the ol heave ho.

Note that you want to shock the nut loose, not a slow pull to get it to turn.  Take all the slack out of the pipe/breaker bar and give it a good quick shove to snap it loose.

final step. . .

120v AC electric impact gun.  No drama, just one loosened flywheel nut...

Also a good idea, but it would cost him money.

He could borrow one...

nah, everyone has air tools. i would need their compressor too.
depending on how big of a compressor they have i migth be able to carry it on the bike without issue.

maybe i can rig something from the rear wheel of the XR.... [bang]

i just priced them out. $70 for a porter cable 18v cordless (did see any with a cord) looks really cheap and i thought "not bad, i might as well buy it!"

then i read more and realized it doens't come with a battery or charger.  [roll]

i really dont' like doing that sort of thing.
