comforting...

As you'd expect, plenty of folks interpret the impending supernova as a sign of the Apocalypse. (Coincidentally, the Mayan calendar predicts Armageddon in 2012, and the word "Betelgeuse" has strong associations with the devil.) But Carter dismisses the doomsayers, pointing out that the implosion will shower the earth with tiny particles called neutrinos that are absolutely harmless. “They will flood through the Earth and bizarrely enough, even though the supernova we see visually will light up the night sky, 99 per cent of the energy in the supernova is released in these particles that will come through our bodies and through the Earth with absolutely no harm whatsoever.”

I see it instead as maybe that we'll get showered by these cosmic particles and get super powers.

You could just as well be right as the guy saying 'they're harmless'.

We could all die too...

I'm gonna wear my tinfoil hat...no sense in taking chances. ;D

morning all !!!

2nd day with no running water, sun shining, humid and making runs to get drinking water ...

buying food gets expensive ... 3 meals for 3 persons =$45.00 today, breakfast $22.00 ... this month hasn't been good to me ...

Well if the end of the world is next year ... I need to get my bike fixed so that I can ride it like if I had stolen it ... ...

all the more reason for us to all drain our bank accounts and buy all the bikes we've always wanted.  [thumbsup]

My bigger concern would be that for whichever hemisphere is in summer when such a thing occurs, I'd picture some stupidly hot temperatures for a few weeks.

interesting little fact
I knew Betelgeuse is lot bigger than our sun but didn't realize it's an estimated 1,000 times the diameter.
pretty interesting

i should take some photos of the impressive icicles hanging from our 2nd story roof
i've never seen them this big...

i'm concerned about the roof, the ice dam's are almost 2ft tall...
we've raked off the snow we can reach, but it's really stacking up this year

and our oil co. has informed us that they can't deliver oil or propane due to the condition of our driveway  :-\

but on the bright side, we still have power & water so i can do laundry  ;D

Reading this page makes me think of the movie Beetlejuice.

We may get some sun today and even more during the week.

I recall reading somewhere that if Betelgeuse was where out sun was it would reach to Jupiter's orbit.

It's either time to find a different oil company...

or get someone with a skidsteer to push things back.

Your ice dams might be telling you something about your insulation. ;)

Tini,

glad you can do laundry ... driving 20 miles [round trip] to get water is getting tiresome ... plus the added cost of gas ... we had running water at least during the evenings but ... glad you can do laundry ...

everyone still safe?

oh yeah, everyone is pretty much fat, dumb, and happy

electricity is restored via a cable laid on the ground through the woods

The frontier/verizon people set up a temp wireless truck

Mountain Wave SAR Communication has a mobile VHF radio truck with a couple folk embedded with our crew on the dark side

we've got about 6 hoodland fire guys across the river working with a few amr, portland fire, gresham fire, and clackamas fire residents who wont be going to work anytime soon.

The biggest issue right now is this:

The roads folks can get this diverted easy enough

and

get the road rebuilt in several days

but

if the damn sun comes out and starts warming up the rain infused snow pack

then we get to do it all over again
