I'm afraid...

The current plan is to split it up and only mix half of it.

What could go wrong?

You're more likely to screw it up by splitting if you don't have a good way to measure accurately.

I was gonna use a stick with a mark on it

That only works in a perfectly straight sided container, which a drywall bucket is not.

The leading causes of coating failures are bad prep, or bad mixing.

Go to the hardware store and get some of those large graduated mixing buckets...I think they have them in gallon sizes...

and trust me on the thinner. It will extend your working time so there is no waste.

You'll have the time to get all of the mix on the floor.

Off to job site soon.  Starting the deck on the addition I designed and was constructed last summer.

Then back to sorting receipts for our taxes.   :P

Excited about going to the range today!

Stopping at the Honda dealer on the way home to get a main jet or two for the Hawk.  It's got a high flow air filter & full exhaust, but the jets are still stock.  I'd like to help that anemic top end.  Then I'm going to try to sort Molly's carbs the rest of the way.  Still acts up just off idle, & the idle hangs a bit high for a couple seconds.

The hang is from either too high idle or bad synch.

5 gallons of primer was supposed to cover 650 square foot

In reality I think it would have done 1600.

I only needed 2.5 gallons to do my 800sf area.

This stuff comes 3 gallons in a 5 gal bucket that you add 2 gallons of catalyst to.

I do have a 1 gallon graduated mixing pail.

You said mix thinner 5%  5% of what volume?

Thanks dp, I'll check the idle first since it's easiest.  Either way, looks like I'm going to be back in the carbs with the stalling/fussiness off idle. I'll be doing a "redneck" sync if the idle is where it should be.  I used my redneck version to sync the Suzuki GS1150 I used to have.

5% of total volume...

1.5 gals part A...1 gal part B...1qt max thinner.

You could get some more of those mixing buckets and mix a really small amount to test it if you like.

use a 3:2 ratio

I'm still afraid.

How about the cautions on the containers that say specifically not to thin or reduce?

in that case always follow manufacturers recommendations...I'm no chemist.

I would experiment with a very small amount...just cuz. [evil]

You don't have to put it on the floor for the test...spread it on plywood or something.

Just make sure to measure accurately if you split. I bet they say not to do that either.

I'll check but I didn't see any warnings about that

I'm pretty confident that I can get it mixed 3 to 2

Shall I save you some for experimentation?

;D

All I could think of when I saw that bucket smoking was that I was glad I didn't put a lid on it :o
