I like to talk...

not type.    ;D
I can't argue that logic.

Ok, all on-track drama aside, compare the 996 to the SS

nothing anywhere near close to a highside.

I was very cautious with the throttle when leaned over.

The 996 is like a truck compared to the SS.

It's about 50lbs heavier and you feel it.

The steering requires forceful input...no thinking the bike around a corner. You have to really tell it what to do.

At speed the 996 shines...it is as stable as you could ask for...no twitching or dancing. The SS was all over the place over 100...this thing just tracks straight and true. It makes it easy on the straight to go very fast.

I never realized how much better the 4 pad calipers were. I thought it was hype. They are amazing compared to the earlier versions. They become very useful when it's time to slow down.

The 996 won't be tolerating my frugality with tires...it will require tires that are current years production. I went from full sipes on Friday morning to wear bars by the end of the day on the front on the left side. The front was sliding at that point. It wasn't as scary as I thought...takes getting used to.

The motor....well it pulls like a tractor. It makes power from 4K rpm and just builds...no big hit...just gets to about 120hp very smoothly and gradually. It makes an old slow guy able to keep up without killing himself. ;D

where'd everyone go?
16 mile round trip to get high test for the SS so I can try an screw up the carbs a bit more.  It's nice living in the boonies...

It sounds like you've got yourself a handful o' bike there.  I have a hard time imagining getting used to the front end sliding, but I'll take your word for it.   ;D

I'd guess I'm a long way from 'used to it' yet....

nothing bad happened. ;D

Should be 'interesting' at Loudon. ;D

Did you ever get the charging issue straightened out?

Dunno for sure, I put another regulator on, so I assume it will be good.  I retarded the spark as far as it will go, I've got the cans at the welders to finish the coring and I'll repack them when that's done.  I scored a radial master for the brakes off Ebay but until I ride it I have no idea if that'll take care of that problem. The plastic is as repaired as I'm gonna get it now and has been rattle-canned black.  I'm gonna try for another Fishtail day in August but that might not happen.

A voltmeter will tell the story.

Where did you get packing material?
