In other news:  there's not much to report on from the land of sinners.  Except as I was out hoofing it between "workshops" at this conference, one heel of my very nice, nearly new strappy sandals kept puncturing through the carpet and after about 4-5 steps, I couldn't help but wonder why there were holes in the carpet and could it be possible that the concrete under the carpet could be cracked for my heel to go through 3 inches?  So perplexed I was.  I stop, look at the carpet behind me (mentally scratching head) and a woman behind me says, "your heel is broke - I've been watching it collapse with every step you've taken."  

We both laughed.   Never had that happen before.  Good pair of shoes too.  So I thought.    

Only thing I could do was take them both off and walk BAREFOOT back to my room, which is NEVER a short walk in this gross dirty filthy town â€" even if you're walking inside!    EW EW EW EW EW!    (Still kind of funny to me though how stymied I was.)
