the bears around here might still be wandering...and hungry.

Hasn't been wintry enough to force them into hibernation.

guy I know...wealthy German...grew up in some castle over there....

he had a dancing bear as a child with a paid handler

for his amusement...

damn bear near tore the poor handler's arm off his shoulder one day

I could picture this guy as a little kid bouncing up and down in his lederhosen

clapping his hands and laughing with glee

Same here....and we had a bad growing season

so we are sure to have them wandering through our yard again

on their way downtown (4 blocks away) to party in Pack Square

About once or twice a year a bear will wander into my neighborhood

You can smell them coming so getting the dog in isn't a problem.
I'd hate to have to get in the middle of that conflict

Breaking up a fight between her and a Great Dane was annoying enough

My experience has shown that the bears are just as afraid of us as we are of them.

It has only been a couple of encounters, and they were black, not brown bears, so it isn't a representative sample

black bears while not to be underestimated, are wimps compared to brown
If we had them here, I wouldn't even have a thought of involving myself. I'd throw the bear some seasonings to go with it's meal.

a loud noise will scare off a black bear...

unless he's in a garbage can or a bird feeder.
