You should ask your warranty co. to send over a real electrician, that guy isn't one, or shouldn't be one
maybe he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

well the thing is, he was the 2nd one..the first guy was a flake, so i got them to send me out another one.. and the description on his website made him sound reputable & i couldn't find any bad reviews... i honestly think at one point he knew his stuff & now he's kinda past his prime...

here's his description: Been serving clients in Northern California for over 40 years.  Dennis began the company in 1968. Dennis has a General Contractor's license as well as a Painting, Electrical, Plumbing, Flooring, HVAC and several other specialty licenses; he is a certified California Real Estate home inspector. In the 70's and 80's he and his employees, which reached over 30 at one time, were one of the main Contractors used for Insurance Repair and Remodel in the Sacramento Area, handling everything from demolition to complete re-builds with an office in Fairfield, Sacramento, and Stockton. Providing quality service at a fair price and taking small and large jobs has been his aim since the company began.

40 years? make the beast with two backs that, he needs a nap

What size is the wire feeding the microwave?

A 12-2 copper conductor will carry 20 amps which is what you want for a nuke...it probably doesn't actually ever draw 20, but it's an industry standard, and code calls for 20 amp circuits on countertops.

I'm betting there's 12-2 or 14-2 aluminum, neither of which is rated for 20 amps which is why he went back to the 15 amp breaker.

Why didn't he just run a new circuit?

Do you have a basement? Are you on a slab?

+1  An electrician would have suggested this, not putting in a bigger breaker

At least Sparky drills relatively small holes, when the plumbers start with the hole saws and sawzalls, the carpenters get nervous   ;D

It's starting to snow out there. I have to get up at 2:30 AM and drive to the California coast. The snow is going to slow things up.

While I'm gone, I guess Party at my house. I'll be back Sunday.  :D

You can also make the house faster by adding more power to it. Just change all the breakers to 50 Amp  ;D

The guy I worked for had a practice of drilling a fairly large hole through all the joists and pull all his home runs through it.

I learned in school that it was against code, and I showed him in the code book...it's called bundling.

He just said...'Alright smart guy...I guess you have to drill a boatload more holes...huh'? [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang]

Call a real electrician and get a price on running a new circuit. There might be some cosmetic issues...drywall etc...

I don't know if you'd have recourse against your insurance or not, but it sounds to me like your wiring doesn't meet code. All your kitchen and dining room outlets should be 20 amp. That would require 10 gauge wire.  Aluminum wiring presents some hazards because it oxidizes at the connections. Even if the wiring was sized right there is the danger of oxidation and degradation of the wiring which downgrades the current carrying capacity.  When that happens the resistance goes up and you get heat...that causes fires.

There are corrective measures to minimize the risk, but it's a fair amount of work and it's pretty specific on the methods.

Again...call a real electrician.
