Morning Double D  ;D

From where do the bride's family hail?

Iran.  Her father and sister had no issues with their visas.  Her brother is in Toronto at University, his situation was weird.  He could come to the US, but would not be allowed back into Canada.   :P  Some of her aunts/uncles also live in the Toronto area and were able to attend.

I'd be in a coma if DIMBY was 2 months long.

Any in attendance would be as well.

I've only been to the US once.  Via NZ.

A long time ago.  In those days I needed a visa too (these days I can show up whenever I like).

I had a notional 3 month visa (but not the funds to support such a lengthy visit).

On arrival at LAX... I had $120 (and an onward ticket to LHR).

I was young.... untidy and poor... and was expecting a hostile encounter with US immigration...  but... it went something like this:

Them:  "Good morning Sir"

Me: Looks around to see who the VIP is...........

Them:  "Welcome to the United Sates"....   "How long do you intend to remain in the USA?"

Me:  "Two days"

Them:  "You just flew all the way from Noo Zealand to stay in our country just 2 days?"

Me:  "Yes"

Them: ".............. enjoy your say  :)".

I later checked my passport and was shocked to see that I was granted entry into USA for three months....

Now... if I'd said I wanted to stay for 3 months.... I'm certain the next question woulda been "how much money do you have to support your stay [sir]?"   [laugh] [bang]

I left, as planned 48 hours after arriving.  But I was tempted.

Even Carlos stays longer than 2 days. :P

What was the reason for the trip?

I was attending a friend's wedding.

In England.

Mostly it makes more sense to fly to England via Asia, but I'd been visiting a Kiwi mate and bumming around NZ for a couple of months....  and from there all the cheapest flights to London went via the US.

So USA was just a transit hop.

I did think long and hard about skipping the wedding though when I realised I had permission to see how far $120 would get me in America......  [evil]

But (unusually) duty prevailed and I boarded the DC10 to London, via Baltimore.

We'd all be in jail.

With one exception.  Randy would be lost in the woods.    ;D

Back in those days...which I'm guessing was the 70's...$120 would have lasted quite a while.
