I never did get too far on the Valve check today. I think the Horizontal cyl is at TDC.

when you turn the engine, looking from the left, turn left or in the direction the rear wheel spins . . .

Saw your question when I got home, will send link to M750 repair manual tomorrow . . .

                    flogged successfully  NHMS  12 customized.  Twice.   T3 too.   Now retired.
