I was guessing that
The real story is in the pour.

They'll be dollars I normally don't see in my wallet. ;)
Dollars nonr the less.

I'm in too deep now. It will last me 5 or so years now until I upgrade. Strangely, you can get low mileage replacement motors cheap as chips, so it beats getting a 20-40K 4x4 ute.

A buddy just bought a brand new F-350 with the new diesel.

I don't understand how he can afford it.

It cost half of what I paid for this house.

I refuse to suffer the depreciation driving off the lot. I would rather get something older that can be rebuilt/repaired and wont make me cry if it's scratched. Japanese import motors are cheap and everything can be repaired for thousands cheaper than new. There's a freedom in that.
My wife on the other hand is like your buddy. She is a "new car person" who likes to upgrade new every 5 or so years. She's hot enough to have what she likes. ;D

I don't mind buying new.

I just run them until they won't pass safety inspection.

But you wring your money's worth out of them. ;) I don't get buying new every three years.

Putting it in perspective, my ute, sedan, Monster and Gixxer would struggle to add up to 15K total, but they are worth much more to me than that. You can buy a nice enough used car here for 20K that will need work soon enough. My Ford sedan will go on cheap club registration this month and the track bike needs none. I would have to be a rich man indeed to buy a new car every few years. Club registration for old vehicles is the biggest win motorcyclists and car enthusiasts have had here for many years.

That's why Ung needs a Morini ;D.

Hey Needle.

Nate. Club registration is for vehicles over 25 years old. It's 45 days driving for $76 pa or $150ish for 90 days driving pa. You need a log book and club membership. Normal registration (not counting insurance) in my state is $700 pa. My membership of the Classic Italian Motorcycle Club of Australia is $30 pa. You can ride anywhere in Australia, anytime, just don't exceed the days you are registered for and keep the log book current, or you guessed it, a $700 fine. My wife and I have more than $30 worth of free coffee and canoli at the club functions, so the club membership pays for itself. [laugh]

So if you collect classics it's quite affordable. A customer sold his modern bike and bought two classics which he rides 45 days each. I want to put the Elefant project I planned on club reg as I wouldn't ride it enough to warrant $700 reg.

Sort of like antique plates here...except no club membership required.

I guess there are some restrictions on driving, but I don't think it's enforced.

They used to have restrictions like only for formal club runs, but it's free now. I like that.
