My ancient Troy Bilt walk behind is on it's last legs, and I used to grow acres of stuff, which is why I have the tractor mounted 4' tiller.

T bought a ton of peppers that need separation, and she also has these giant pumpkin seeds starting. I'm sure some tomatoes and other shit will show up

I doubled the size of last years tiny garden spot now 6x20, and tilled a spot about 20x20 further out for the pumpkins and anything else.

It's not going to be a great year to try these giant pumpkins. They need a lot of water, take up a ton of space, and it's dry here. We grew them once before and it was fun though. Took it to the local aggy fair and got second prize.

My pumpkins keep trying to takeover...

I have some pepper seeds to plant soon too. Which varieties does T want separated?

I am on a normal suburban block so no space for separation. I get some iinterbreeding.

You must have a lot more land than me.

I have close to 4 acres...about half clear and half woodsy stuff.

She has some hot varieties...Old Joe at the 'tip', the guy that fostered 18 kids, told her that the Jalapenos, the Habaneros, and the Hot Cherries need to have some space in between. He says 60', but that aint happening. She can get 60 from one variety to the others, but two of them are gonna be closer.

These giant pumpkins will likely take over. ;D  Too bad you can't eat them. [bang]

I like my pumpkins to be eaters...Need to keep chopping it. Wife cannot get into the garden at present, need to trim it up again.....

Got given a Viper yesterday, so will harvest the seeds and try that.
Not had a lot of luck getting my habaneros to grow. Ghosts have just not come up from the seeds, so I question the original plant.....more likely the grower though  ;D

Our growing season is short. You don't get to chop pumpkins.

This might be a good year for hot peppers. I think the rain will be minimal, and that means more sun, so if we get some heat and I can give them enough water...

growing stuff is sketchy.

My land does a great job growing rocks.  ;)

It's the other reason for the tractor and tiller...you can't put a shovel into the ground here...literally.

I have mint everywhere also, once it is in comes up everywhere.....
Basil, coriander (similar to your culantro) at times, mostly too hot here, goes straight to seed.

Need to get some more oregano in again, all eventually died. Have lemongrass, thai ginger, garlic chives and other assorted herbs.
Plus veges.....

Surprised your house is not made of stone then  ;D

Good stuff in my garden is grown in above ground garden beds....We have a mix of clay also....slowly removing rocks...

Stone is not a great insulator. ;D

Raised beds is a great system. I used to hand shovel the garden plot into raised rows every year...wasn't my idea, but it worked.

Permanent beds would be better as long as you can keep the soil structure correct. Depletion can be an issue unless you amend with compost or have extra beds to use cover crops. Then there's the issue of cultivation in permanent raised beds...

wait...don't get me going. :P

I just move stuff around. ;)

I used to run a state certified organic farm. NH had a really strict program...it was great.

When the Feds got involved...and dumbed it down...

I bailed.
