I think it's a pretty interesting tradition.  A Clemson alum told me about it when they were in Phoenix last season for the Fiesta Bowl.

I was also at the Bureau of Engraving & Printing earlier this summer and they spoke to the reasons why they continue to print the $2 bill, this being one of them.
