Good morning  [coffee]

My neighbor just bought a Chevy.

Borrowed a scan tool to do the rear brakes in my Audi.  I hear you can back off the pistons by just applying battery voltage to the motors, I'll let someone else try it first.
You use the laptop and back off the parking brake. You need to have it on a charger though as you have to do it with the engine off and the motor has a pretty high amp draw.
Mess it up and you potentially have to replace a many hundred dollar module. Easy to do correctly if you follow the instructions though.

That is why I would let someone else try the alternative first.  Easy with the VAG tool, as is bleeding and flushing.  If you let the rear brakes get real low the piston can unscrew from the motor.  At least on a 2010 A4.  Don't ask how I know.

What happened to the days when all you needed to back off brake pistons was a block of wood and a c clamp?
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Gone with vent windows.

Truth is that technique only works for calipers that do not include a parking brake.  Those needed to be turned in.

Off to the gym in a bit and then to the outlet mall.

Have a day all.

Given.  Still, the only need for a laptop in most vehicle repairs should be to watch the YouTube video on how to make said repair.  Damn technology!

Fact is, it's the first tool a technician goes for today...progress. :-\

Nate-you got anything to like to use inside of rusty motorbike gas tanks? I need to redo one.

I was using POR-15. Did literally hundreds of tanks without issue. Then ethanol came on the scene and people were reporting the coating coming off in sheets. I stopped coating tanks at that point.

Some say the Caswell coating is still impervious, but phosphoric acid under epoxy can also cause adhesion issues, so the rust is still there, just encapsulated. That goes against everything I know, so I have no good recommendation.
