With the good comes the bad. My direct report had her year one review today. Mostly 3's - solid performer. No raise. She had about 2 years of experience and wanted the median salary from the BLS data set for an EHS specialist.  At the median, or 50% you would expect that about half those with that salary are at about halfway through their career. She is at the beginning.

So no raise. She came in overpaid and has not exceeded above basic expectations. I predict that she will quit tomorrow.

During the review I told her I would understand if she turned in her notice, but the issues raised would go with her to a new job. I think she has great potential and can grow into the career. I hope she stays, puts in the work, and grows.

Time for a drink and some popcorn.

Should be no problem replacing her. My original review had the four sections graded as 2 needs improvement and 2 meets expectations. To be even and fair, I ended up giving her two 3's and only one 2.  She lacks the ability to do anything without being asked or told and there is no follow through on tasks.

We work in manufacturing and she asks all time about diversity equity and inclusion. Nothing wrong with that, but not many women of color have enough time in the industry yet to be upper management.

She speaks Spanish and can train in Spanish and wants extra compensation for it.  I told her that is not going above and beyond, it is part of the job. It is why I hired her.

We share an office, Going to be a long day.  My boss, the COO, called her a snowflake! Not to her, but to me.

Also, I'm liking a Kawasaki Z900rs....   Just sayin'.

If I wanted to replace an older Monster the replacement would probably be a Triumph Thruxton.  Gotta say Kawasaki did a great job on theZ900RS

Very few people here want to work. Fewer can pass a piss test.

Fewer can pass a piss test.

Not sure why that's even a requirement anymore.

Evening.

I'm more unsure why it's only a requirement for the lower ranks.

Why does no one care if the person making the decisions is high as a kite?

Excellent point.

Probably taboo to talk about here.  :-\

Not necessarily. Depends where it goes.

Morning.  We drug test all new hires. Managers and salary staff too. The test includes thc.  About once a year we have someone that hits something with a forklift or truck that meets the testing requirements for a test. And about once a year
we have someone that is drinking on the job or getting high on the job.  We have a policy/program for both.

We once had a manager drunk at work (offsite) yelling at a customer.

Not fired, because there was no policy on alcohol at the time.  :P

Even with THC being legal in WA?  Assuming the test is for Delta 9s?

I get the risks in your working environment.  But it also limits your pool of otherwise qualified candidates.
