I live a fortunate & interesting life. More than most, I have lived a life in many parts.  Almost as if it's not just one life that I have been granted, but several.  Two English lives, separated  l o n g  in time by... other lives.  An Israeli life (I can still speak just a little עִברִית).  A German life & a worldwide wandering life in which I became an honorary Scandinavian, learned to pointlessly speak Swedish for no good reason other than my tutor thought it would be a fun, more private way to talk shite in public.  Much booze was drunk & much shite was talked in a mixed up combo language known only to us. Much amusement too that one day we would become två gamla hundar.  Most of you know my Australian life, the largest of lives.  I grew up Australian, the life in which I became a fully fledged adult.  My adult kids are Australian.  It's home.  It's... one of my homes. In England I'm Australian. And in Australia I'm – apparently - becoming English (although my passport leaps to my defence).  All these lives I've been privileged to live, a mere co-author of these chapters that wrote themselves...... turns out they also have endings.

I have to fly to Sweden on Wednesday to respect the last words to be written in the Scandinavian book. To say farewell to that connection, it's language & the shared knowings, known only to us.  Well make the beast with two backs.  Du ska inte bli gammal där i Skandinavien. Nu är allt det där borta, bara en del spår finns kvar. Men det är spåren an mina lyckligaste dar.

Only one gamla hund remains.
