As you get older, memories become more important. As Paul Simon once said..."Preserve your memories. They're all that's left you." My buddy Michael passed three years ago in about a week and a half on my mom's birthday.

T went shopping today for a few things, and as I've been drinking old fashioneds lately I asked her to get me an orange. She came home exclaiming..."I have a surprise...Blood Oranges."

Back shortly after T and I first met, I got convinced to try working in a restaurant kitchen. I had never done anything like that before, and the kitchen crew was sure I would fail because my first night was Christmas Eve. I showed up, listened to the owner, and did what he said. Turned out kitchen work was just process like most jobs. I didn't fail, I actually got pretty good at it.

Fast forward, one of the chefs took a different job after the restaurant closed and hired me for the same position. We became fast friends, and we'd go to his place after work, and drink screwdrivers with fresh squeezed blood oranges, when in season. He was passionate about them.

So, I'm not drinking screwdrivers, but the blood orange garnish in my old fashioned is in honor of you my friend.

Morning. Forecast is for more heartbreak later this morning after I have a vet come to the house to put the sweet pup out of her misery.  Really quite bummed that the "golden girls" (my age, her color) adventures could never come to fruition.

No other news other than the need for more coffee and figuring out a new plan.
