Big Troubled Bear

TV is the same everywere, 10 minutes of viewing pleasure interspersed with 10 minutes of advertisements [bang]

I have satelite tv and most of the channels that show movies don`t have ad breaks while the movie are on but inbetween they kill you [laugh]

We have ESPN, Discovery, History, NGC and probably another 100 and something channels with squat to watch.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

...some people refuse to learn  [roll]

that being said - i have quite the quandary

in the midst of moving, i thought it would be a good time to sell my project Trail 90 that i've had for years
i've rebuilt it quite a few times (out of multiple engines) and each time the engine seizes
this last time, the transmission was making a noise in 1st gear.
I half-way tore it apart but needed a gear puller for the magneto

last night, i decided to clean it up as i have a couple people interested.
in the midst of cleaning i ended up dissassembling the engine completely  :P
now i don't want to sell it - but could really use the money
and most likely, the engine is going to seize again (the piston was already showing signs of wear)
i probably won't ever buy one again as i don't expect to have the money any time soon - and if i did, it would probably go to something else
but this is my baby that i restored after finding it in my father's shed

what to do!?
do i sell?!
do i keep it and hope for the best?!

Thoughts going out to River.
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Thanks to everyone who's throwing thoughts her way...

As far as the Trail 90 goes.  Here's my advice:  Don't sell it for the $.  I sold the Coup D'etat for the $$$ and have regretted it many more times than the $$$ could have afforded me.  You can never get it back.  Ever.

If it meant nothing to you, then you would've sold it already....

Oh yeah, that and come to DIMBY dammit!  >:(

wow, i really need to read previous postings in here - but i can never keep up!!
i hope everything is well with River.

Right now, we have 1 week of overlap between our current residence and the new one - unfortunately the only weekend for that overlap is the 25th  :-\

We were planning on coming down - but time constraints aren't good.

Good thoughts going from the right coast to the left coast ~

Tough decision Fry, I'm like that with my TS185.  It's the 1st motorcycle I ever road, there's a pic of me, my Dad, and my sister on it sometime around 1980 I think.  I've got a lot of work and a bit of money in it over the years, and it's still not *right* you could say.

Well, went and played in the snow. It was more like muddin' without being able to see the bumps and ruts  My truck is a bit dirty now.

Things are well w/Ericka...  today's just really heavy is all.

If you can make it, that'd be cool!  If not, no worries.

yeah, my dad has had two 90s my entire life - with only one of them running. It's what i grew up on
i always wanted one and i was excited when i stumbled upon this one in the shed
unfortunately it had been in there cause he had no idea what was wrong, or any recolection of the symptoms

i tore the whole thing down and refurbished it
the engine looked clean except maybe a stretched Cam Chain
replaced the chain and bolted it back together
seized
cleaned carb and rebuilt engine
seized
same thing x3 or more times
last time it was running great except the transmission noise (which turned out a tooth broke off 1st gear)

i love this bike but it's been the bain of my existance.
i've rebuilt several, far-more-complicated engines and had they running tip-top
but for the life of me, i can't keep this little single-cylinder engine going.

Fry - Is something partially blocking an oil passage causing a slow, but steady accelerated wear problem somewhere in the crank or piston lubrication systems?  That would be my only guess unless there's some scoring on the cylinder walls.  I had to hone & go .5mm over when I rebuilt the seized 185 because of cylinder wall damage ~

that's what i keep thinking - it's a simple oil system, and I've checked/blown out all the oil passages throughout all the rebuilds - no avail
I've put different cranks/pistons/cylinders/cases/oil pumps in throughout the rebuilds and it always wears on the same spot
i also hone the cylinder each time to get a good seal.

Have you actually checked the oil pressure?

Like with a gauge?

She'll be milling through TOSAT on Monday and will catch all these well-wishes herself, but I'll pass along the love should I have the opportunity to text her today.

I rode her 620 to work after checking on the dogs an hour ago.  Just wishin' I could do more is all...  <sigh>

Mr Fry:  Talk with other Honda single experts/enthusiasts (if you haven't already).  Perhaps they could shed some light on the problem.  Remember this though:  If you put it back in the shed until you have more time and $$$, you'll still have it and the potential of getting it running again.  If you sell it, you likely won't ever get it back.
