Never been through an insurance ordeal before, but State Farm is very easy to deal with.

Already have a tow truck on the way to take it to a dealer for estimate.

God I hope they don't total it.

2 new wheels (stock jetta rims are 1200$ a piece)
2 new doors
1 rear quarter panel
got knows what it did to suspension and under frame

ugh. I love that car.

More Ning...

I'm in Norwalk.  I spent the weekend at my Sister's in South Windsor and this afternoon I'll be visiting with an old friend in the Danbury/Brookfield area.   :)

My flight leaves JFK at 6am tomorrow morning.   :P

good to hear you're ok.

What year is the car?

I hate to say it but it doesn't sound good with quarter panel damage.

I could be wrong though. Good luck.

It's a 2004 and book value is 13,400 according to kbb.com

The rims are 1200$ a piece.

So take 2400$ right there as they are both damaged.

Good thing you had a chance to talk to him and find out where he's from, cb. Should help a little when you describe him to the police.  [roll]

Well, State Farm probably will do whatever costs them less.

Are you ok with used parts?

If so, it could help you a lot.  If you insist on new OEM parts + the labor and I think the cost would easily be in the 50% + range of the book value.

But, then again, they come up with the book number, so that $13K could be high or could be low.

Everything's negotiable.

Fingers crossed for you, I know what it's like to loose a car you love.

Not cool.

If you knew anything about Columbus Ohio or the Dublin Taxi Service, then you would know what I am talking about.

Since you most likely don't live here or have ever taken a Dublin Taxi, then I'd keep your remarks to yourself.

I have lived here for 6 years and every cab driver from that service has been Somali.

It is all handled through the dealership doing the estimate and State Farm. I have no power in what part goes on what, but it has to be put back to OEM condition.

It's the taxi service in Dublin Ohio which is shadey as shit.

Ning, all. We're having between-holidays house guests; father-in-law & a niece arrived late yesterday. Was planning on going shooting muzzleloaders with F-in-law & some others tomorrow, but instead he brought along a .45-70. Should be interesting.

And if you knew the rules here you'd leave the ethnic/racial comments at home. ;) That's a hint BTW.

It's your car. You can have it fixed any way you want. Used parts...aftermarket parts... the insurance company automatically allows for aftermarket if they're available...even on a brand new car.

Tell your shop to write their estimate to avoid a total.
