I'm feeling like general may be a great decision in that situation.

But that's me.

On the flip side, I never get Novocain, or any anesthetic, at the dentist.

I just suck it up.

I probably will go with the general. The only thing that used to suck about generals was they intubate you which leads to a nasty sore throat from them sticking a tube down your throat (leave the jokes alone). However, this surgery center uses a new technique and device that does not leave you with a sore throat. I recall last year not having a deathly sore throat; just thought I had a good anethes. putting the tube in (again, no jokes).

I'll probably go general and ask for a shoulder block, which pretty much makes my shoulder down to my hands numb for about 2 days. It rocks. Got one last time, but they thought the tear was in the front, so that is where the block was put, unfortunately, tear was in back, so it was rendered useless.

Comparing sucking it up verse shoulder surgery.........a wee bit different of a procedure........

The dentist also doesn't give you an IV and a "cocktail" before the surgery (Ativan and versaid or phentenol)

Good luck with the surgery CB!  2 in 1?!  4 in 10?!

I'm liking my numbers:  0 in 40+(++).   [thumbsup]

Soccer injury from 1998 tore out my left labrum, leading to dislocations.

Problems ever since.

1. Surgery one left me with a 5.5in scar and 3 titainum pins
2. Within a year, one of the pins broke in half (I believe it was due to physical therapy)
3. Surgery 2 was in Feb 2001, that doctor removed the broken pin, leaving 2, and then inserted 3 more. He told me and I quote "I have those pins so far down in the joint, they will never ever come out"
4. Surgery 3 was last January where the rear part of my shoulder was stitched back together. The doctor goes "I'd like to meet the guy who put those pins in the front in. He put them in so tight and deep in your joint, you will never have an issue there"
5. Surgery 4 Thursday is to scrape out all the scar tissue left over from 3 previous surgeries, which is causing awful pain.

Once all that is done, you guys probably won't see me for a week as I am going to check in to detox to come off of 5mons of legally prescribed narcotic addiction.

I feel like a make the beast with two backsing junkey, but it was rough last time and I want to be in a controlled environment to help with the withdrawal symptoms.

Good Luck to you (and steady hands to your surgeon)! As you were running down your history, I got a bad feeling that surgery #4 would be something to replace the loose pins that were never supposed to budge. Glad to get to the end and find out I was wrong.
