Morning, its 43 degrees this morning and raining. Hopefully the rain will melt the rest of the stubborn snow. These temps are a welcome change from the thermometer saying 2 and 6 and stuff like that the last few weeks.
What's the problem with 2 or 6?

If there is the slighted breeze when its 2 or 6 it makes my ears hurt. It also makes it so that I have to run the heater a lot higher and the washing machine stays frozen for days on end.

frozen pipes suck

I deal with it every winter.

Maybe not next year.

I'm planning on building a new house because global warming isn't fast enough.

New houses are nice. I live in an old store built in the 30's. In all that time nobody ever insulated the place. I'm almost done putting R30 in the attic and replacing single pane windows.

Mine was built in the 60's...1860's.

About 50 years ago someone reinforced the foundation by pouring a concrete berm. They also decided it would be a good idea to bury the sills in about a foot of concrete.

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

It's going to be cheaper to build a new one.

Is the foundation crumbling or do you just need to get under the house?

The foundation is brick and would need replacing.

Add...the walls are rotted because of the constant contact with the concrete. So I'd need to rebuild half way up the wall.

Even if I did the repairs, I'd still have a 150 year old house that needs literally everything else also.

There will be added benefits of the new building in that it will be farther off the road and have better solar exposure.

Also I'll be leaving something for my family that will be much more livable, easier to maintain and afford, and will have greater value.
