I told off a student last night. Lost all patience for his BS and let him have it.

I will hear about it today.  I did apologize, but I did mean what I said. The guy was an ass and would not shut up.  I was not the lead instructor and could not take the lead on the situation. The lead could not control him.

He did shut up after I told him what for. Half the class clapped.
