How'd you know? I bought it from some guy named Randy, Randall, something like that...

I still feel for the guy who bought that bike.

He was never able to get it titled...........

Any specifics? I haven't towed with it yet but Ford is touting it's capability over the other trucks you mentioned. What was your experience?

Tranny doesn't want to shift very well (we were driving the 5.4L FX4 model).  Lot's of body roll.  Interior was weird.  Had the futuristic dotty dash panels, but basket-weave leather seats.

Brakes also were a weakness.  Long pedal travel, and not much grabbing action.

Also, their 11,300 lb towing capacity claim is on one very specific truck that has 3/4 rear springs and rear axle.  Going to imagine the ride will be a bit harsher there.

Their SFE truck (again, one very specific model) that they use to tout their 21 MPG claim has a 3.15 rear end, a few aero bits, aluminum wheels (which puts it in a lower EPA testing class) and low rolling resistance tires to achieve 21 MPG.  Lots of compromise there.

Well, I have the 5.4 FX4 model and having driven it since last week I have to disagree. Tranny shifts perfectly in mine. I have the 3.73 rear end. I love the way the dash looks, seats are very comfortable and supportive. Not sure why you say the brakes are weak, they are much more capable than the 02 I had. There is much less body roll than the 02 I had. Mine has the Max Tow package which sets it up for the 11,300 towing capacity.

I agree about the SFE though. It has the 4.6, lower rear end, skinny tires, the whole nine yards.

Perhaps the difference is noticeable on towing? I had the impression Randimus was towing a load when he found the truck the way he did.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Been half a$$ following this thread, I'm happy with my 93 Dodge W250 5mt cummins. It does what I need need it to do and gets 19 to 22 mpg, and was paid for a decade ago. My question is when is somebody going to wake up and offer a Cummins 3.9 4BT in a 1/2 ton ? If the the 6 cylinder gets 20 mpg, the 4 cylinder should be pushing 30 mpg.
A conclusion is the place you got tired of thinking

At least in theory, in CA, you wouldn't have to pull over for them. It has to be a marked vehicle.

Who told you that?  :)

The vehicle only has to have a solid, forward facing red light to pull you over. Most unmarked cars here have much more then that, including lights in the grill, on the rear views, aboive the visors, or many other combos. And you have to pull over for all of them.

So what setup does your segway have?

My apologies, I was referring to the maximum payload package.  And yes, the Ford was pulling a trailer that weighed 5,000 as were all of the other trucks.

However, since your truck has a maximum payload of 1,560 towing 11,000+ wouldn't leave you much cargo space other than yourself and possibly one other person.

Transmission shifting has nothing to do with the rear end gearing.  The sumpregnant dog would not downshift to accelerate.

I didn't mention anything about the seats being uncomfortable.  I mentioned that the "basket weave" leather didn't really go well with the ultra modern dash inserts.

Makes perfect sense.

However, given the current state of the industry, not many players have the engineering resources to bring a 1/2T pickup w/ a small diesel to market.

Nice Truck. My 92 Toy is hanging tough, but I would love a brand new truck.  ;D
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

Isn't 11k towing pretty high for a half ton truck?

My parents have a 95 F150 and I don't think it can nearly pull that much, but then again, it is 14 years old

It's a Ford.

Not to worry.

I realize every manu builds bad ones....

I've never gotten a bad one from Ford.

As always...YMMV
