Why is it that all your sport bike friends just want speed speed speed?? Why can't they just cruise sometimes?
I honestly bought my bike to cruise in. When I say cruise I mean putting around at 65-75 mph. I'm all about soaking in the scenery and the experience of the ride and not how fast I can get to point A to B.
Am I alone here?

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.

Hell, no, you're not alone.

Some of the best rides in the world would be ruined if you rushed through them.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Definitely not alone. I prefer experiencing the corners and curves and prefecting techinque rather than speed.
This place feels nice. Black S4RS, CRG Barend mirrors, vented clutch cover, gold clutch plate, gold pazzo racing levers, full 50m termi system, little carbon extras....oh yeah ...almost forgot....ban corporate coffee!

I would not describe myself as "slow and steady" but definitely not into the fastest trip possible.  I like to enjoy the ride.  That is really the whole point to me.  I don't really care what the top speed is.  The only part of a trip I do not enjoy is any super-slab.

Well some of them are not too bad.  I-40 between Knoxville and Ashville is not too bad.

Get your buddies to the track to show them how slow they really are.

It'll make the speeding on the street boring.
It's still buy a flounder a drink month

I can understand cracking open the throttle when you're feeling the bike out - even on a long flat slab. It's neat to command that kind of power. But controlling that power is much more interesting.

I'm another solo commuter who is routinely passed by squids on gixxers.

I am not sure if the guys want speed, speed, speed, or if the bike wants it and just talks the squids into it.  I test rode a CBR1000R yesterday, the first sportbike I have ever ridden, and Holy cow.  I love to go fast (as fast as my S2R can take me), but that bike was insane.  INSANE I say!  The rational side of me says there is no sense in any company, anywhere, making any type of personal vehicle go that fast, that fast.  The rider side of me wants one today.  As stated earlier, it would be neat to be in control of that kind of power, and it would have to go to your head.  It would also be really, really easy to get in over your head before you know it.

I had a chance to buy a CBR1000RR for $6100 OTD when I was looking for a bike this time but I passed on it b/c it was too plain and too fast.  They are insane.

I always laugh when I overhear a group of squids discussing their "riding exploits", which mostly involve finding the straightest, flatest piece of slab around and going WFO for as long as possible.  While I concede that there is a degree of skill required to hustle a bike through north Jersey traffic at 100+ mph, it is not a skill that I care to hone.  The roads through the mountains and the country side are where it's at for me.  I sometimes envision myself inviting some of these squids along on one of our group rides and watching them launch off the road into a gorge or a field.   [evil]

I too am a firm believer in "The Pace".

I find there are times for both riding fast and for cruising. I think I tend to want to cruise a little more than most of the guys I ride with.
But my 1098 does not like to be ridden slow. (if you've ever been on one you know what I mean). That bike is really at home accelerating above 80mph. If I ride it I know I could get in trouble and sometimes I think about selling it because it cannot be ridden at legal speeds. But god is it fun!

My monster is at home in any situation and I too like to ride by "the pace"
Most of my friends don't abide by it though
