Waiting at a red light, a doofus in a truck pulls up next to me.

Doofus:  Nice bike, who makes that?
Me: Uhhh....Ducati.  *points at my tank*
Doofus:  Oh, haven't heard of them before.  Is that Mexican?
Me:    ???
Doofus:  *points at my seat* (I have a sergeant seat with Italian flag.)

Light changes, I shake my head and laugh riding away.  At least Mexico has the same colors in the flag I guess.   [thumbsup]

Pointing to my harlequin great dane, "Isn't that kind of big for a dalmation?"

Yes, yes it is.

People ask if my white w/ black spots greyhound is part dalmatian. When I explain that she's a greyhound, and her bloodlines are documented to 1840, they ask "are you sure? she looks like a dalmatian."

The common question I get is "how fast", and I've been saying (alternating) either "it goes to 11" or "I'm not sure because the speedometer only goes to 160, and when I shift out of third..."

The logistics of traveling that fast and taking the time to look to see your speed - mindboggling.

*me on 848 - It weighs around 370 pounds and has about 150 HP right now. (Thinking What does yours have? about 65HP weighing in 1000lbs? 1300lbs with you on it?)

- Ya so why you wearing all that gear?

*me on 848 - I'm not stupid, and I don't "ride to pretend." Why do you strap a cereal bowl to your head? You got corn flakes in their?

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I've been asked if my bike was as fast as a Harley.  Apparently, someone has been lying to him about their Harley.

True story.  My fiancée on the back of the Monster 750.  Legal passing zone on the Cherohala Skyway comes up.  We've been behind this dude on a Sportster (assuming 883 due to what happened next) for miles.  I signal, swing well into the other lane and began to pass.  He rips on the throttle like he's pissed I'm passing or wants to race or something.  It makes a lot of noise, but doesn't speed up much.  I twist Molly's throttle and well, passed him as I'd planned.  So yes, Molly, a 750, is as fast as a Harley.

Sidenote:  When the Harley Sportster 1000 was around in the 70's it was one of the fastest bikes on the road.  Then Honda built the CB900 and Harley's been behind since.

Kawi built the Z-1 first...

And Honda is still trying to catch up. :P

That's right, forgot about that thing.  Good, fast, bike those were and they also went from 900 to 1000cc too IIRC

After a while.

There were a few iterations of the 900 and then it became the KZ-1000.

There wasn't anything faster than the original Z-1s with four throttle cables...

besides an H-2.

When I was new to riding, maybe 2 months in, I was pulled over by a police officer who told me outright he was just stopping me to check my legality. (I was all legit)  He says to me, "I am glad you didn't try to run b/c I would have caught you on that little thing".  Now grant it he definitely had more power than me.  He also weighed alot more than me at the time and so did his harley.  It was also 2" off the ground.  I just thought it was funny b/c if I had any riding skill at all and were the type of person to run there is no way he would have caught me.

H-2's were crazy fast.  I like 2-strokes.  I would kill myself on an H-2 mostly likely.  The hit on one of those is incredible.
