Got the okay from the wife to trade the Monster and get an 848. Then I got a quote from my insurance company and it is through the roof. Geiko for those who want to know. I have a couple tickets on record. I just have liability on the monster because its paid off and its a 97. The liability costs something like 25 bucks a month. Full coverage for the 848 would cost around 500 bucks a month. Talk about getting my bubble popped. Guess I'm gonna have to do some insurance shopping. And yes I believe insurance is a legal scam. Little bit upset right now.

Insure it in your wife's name with you as a driver.

B and I just saved close to 50% on our premiums doing this with some of our vehicles to get our payments lower.

We have Progressive in NY.

Ill have to try that.  I think my wife has more tickets than I do though and she's a bit younger than me. She's 24 I'm 32.

I know that insurance is really dependent on location, bike, person, etc.  Nonetheless, in my experienve Geico is much higher than others around.  Definitely do some shopping.  You might be pleasantly surprised.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Oh, and be sure to send pics of your wife to the dirty ole man from New Hampshire.   [cheeky]

Sometimes, if you can 'grandfather' into a good company that your parents (or hers) have used for years...  There are 'hidden' discounts that can save BIG $$$$$.

Years ago, I had a g/f who had State Farm.  Her grandfather had had State Farm since like the 1800's or sumptin' like that.  We've split up, but somewheres in thier computer, I'm ***STILL*** on the unbelievable low rate system.

I've tried calling other companies to see if they can save me some $, and NO ONE YET has even come close...ever.  (not that I try much, I'm happy with what I'm paying for the coverages I'm getting...)  YMMV.

i wouldn't expect comprehensive coverage on a $14k (hyper) sportbike to be as cheap as liability only on a 12 year old standard naked.

i'm sure liability for the 848 would be "cheap," too.

Liability was something like 40 bucks a month. But I am going to have to finance some of the bike, hence the full coverage. Wife pics to follow.
