Idle adjust and or problems

2000 900SS.  Mostly stock it appears, SIL Moto pipes, snorkels not in airbox.

After looking through LT Synder's manual last night, I can't seem to find any way to adjust the idle.  The bike doesn't idle very well at all.  I have to keep the fast idle lever pulled a little bit at all times.  I really would like to not have to do that, but don't know what it's doing.  It doesn't like running a steady speed if it's under about 4,000 RPM.  Say like riding through town at 20 mph in 1st, it wants so stutter and big and not run smooth, I'd be spinning around 3500-4000 IIRC when this would happen.

Any ideas?

Those RPMs are not liked by any duc, they will bog below 4k.  Really they run better above 4500 RPM.  The carbs should have a small screw on the cable side that controls idle.

The 2000 900SS is FI.  My carbed 750 runs fine down to 2000RPM.  Maybe it's just part of learning how to ride the FI bike ~

I'll look into that, it also idles low IMO, a lot lower than my M750 does.  Doesn't mean it's wrong, but it is so slow idling, it sounds like it'll quit any second.

what's it idling at? is it one of those lovely 'no tachometer' bikes?
my s2r seems to idle a bit low as well...

Souds like you might want to check for vacuum leaks, then set TPS, idle speed and synch.  If the TPS is off fueling will be off through the whole range.  You can adjust the TPS on your bike with a meter capable of reading millivolts.  Place the voltmeter across pins 16 and 30 at the connector With the throttle screw backed out, adjust to 150 Mv.  Then turn the throttle stop screw until you get a reading of 420-460 Mv.  This takes patients.  Synch throttle bodies, then correct idle with the air bleeds if needed.

Thanks Howie, I'll look into it.  It runs really, really well, but is a bit rough at idle.  I'll check that next time I'm tinkering on it ~
