one more thing, your petcocks are not the original.

the originals had two hose connections, one side was to loop to the other petcock to keep the fuel flow balanced.  when you use a "regular" petcock, you can have a situation where the fuel going to one carb runs out, due to the design onf the gas tank.

you can put a dual hose banjo on the carb, it is REALLY easy to do.  then put a piece of hose between the carbs on the second nozzle and you balance the fuel

use these:

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Your a great help buddy, and I'll definitely make sure these issues are cleared up before summer shows up and it goes on some long rides.

Out of curiousity, what kind of fuel range do you think I'll see from her?

if you jet the carbs right, you can get 40-50 mpg highway miles.  i usually clock around 40 in the city and that is with the factory carbs, jetted for my area.

PM me if you need help

they are not as hard to find as you think.

the voltage regulator is common to 100s of bikes.

I have one too, an '86.  There's a place in California that specializes in Elefant parts and I think they sell the Electrex voltage regulators that Howie mentioned.  You may already be a  member, but if not, they also sponsor the "Elefant List" which is an email list similar to the old original DML format.  Lots of support there, mainly for the newer Elefants but still lots of 650 owners belong to it.

Other than some electrical gremlins and clutch issues, mine's been OK.  The motor seems bullet proof.

I have a new one that I'll sell for $60.00 plus shipping.
