Sorry, but I have to vent this and I know all you other guys have the same problem. Since I bought my bike in 02 I have had to order OEM parts twice. Both times it takes a year and a day to get them. I order 2 seals on March 3rd and still don't have them. I don't understand why! Isn't there a US warehouse for parts or does everything come from Italy?  [bang]

Parts come from Italy. DNA used to have a warehouse, but they never had the stuff anyone needed.

Your dealer is ordering parts on a stock order and not VOR. It should only be 3-5 days.

Try a different dealer or ask him to order VOR.

Definately check a different dealer. I never waited more than a week on OEM parts ordered through my dealer.

wasnt there a post like this before witha reply from someone claiming to be in the know who said it was because fo fluctuating exchange rates. and strong euro.
So companies importing stuff from europe were running down their warehouse stocks then ordering directly from the factories to avoid being caught out by changes in the exchange rates.

at the moment prices are high. if they bought lots of stuff and the dollar got stronger then they would loose out.

If a parts coming from italy in a container on a boat then 4 weaks isnt a long time to wait.
Its

personall i'd have gone aftermarket or shopped around till i found one in stock.

The parts I ordered are 2 seals that go behind the clutch basket and are mounted in the side cover. I tried looking online and through local bearing and seal dealers. They could come up with something close but nothing exact. I didn't want to chance using a seal that was a little different. Ducpainter can you tell me what VOR is? I will probably just try one of the OEM part suppliers on the forum here next time. I would have paid extra if they could get them in a week or 2 but they said they couldn't get them any quicker.

VOR = Vehicle Off Road ---- designates an "order by air freight" parts request.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

+1 for Duc Seattle.  I've also found that Spectrum Motorsports in Irvine CA keeps a *lot* of parts in stock, and Pro Italia is pretty good as well for stocking parts.

Don't assume that you'll get your parts quickly just because a dealer has a web-site with an on-line OEM parts order form, I've had very bad luck on two occaisions using that option.
Sold: 2007 S2R1000 for canyon carving and commuting - DP ECU, PCIII, BMC air filter with open box, Zard full exhaust, Race-tech fork internals, Ohlins steering damper, and a Penske 8987 triple clicker

2000 996XU (extra ugly) for track days - BST carbon wheels, Ohlins shock, reworked fork, FBF exhaust, and a bunch of megacycle rocker arms. The rest of it is junk - Hey, I'm just happy that it runs...

Sold: 2002 Aprilia RST1000 for touring - De-restricted airbox, Taylormade Racing exhaust

Thats why I went local. I was worried about getting wrongs parts or something. This way if their wrong I can go see someone in person but I don't think it's worth waiting a month or more to get them.

I'm all for keeping it local but if they're dragging it out like you say they are then I would feel justified in canceling and getting it elsewhere. Plus the guys at Duc Seattle are really good about figuring out what you need if you explain it to them.
ErkZ NOT in SLO w/ his '95 m900!
The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

Perhaps you've never been married?
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.
