First off, thank you for all the replies, second, to the biters, remove teeth kindly, now please.
Ok, as I may or may not have stated, this is my first real bike, I knew from research what they were capable of in the turns. Hell I wanted to go to Rally school, I HATE quarter mile, NASCAR. I never intend to own anything Japanese other than a car. It's either Ducati, Aprilia, Bimota or KTM for me. I just assumed that the bike would top out a little more, and I guess with it possibly running a bit rich, may be the culprit. So now I know a few more things to look at.

I am really trying not to be an ass here, but you bought your first bike a month ago, and you're trying to get it to 160? On public roads?

You need to sit your ass down and beat some sense into yourself, or you will end up as a bug splatter somewhere. I hope that at least you're wearing gear, so when you go down being a squid, you may eventually be able to function again.

Judging from the picture of his bike in his introduction thread, I'd say it's an S4. But, the title might say m900 S4 as previously stated. Stupid Ducati being cheap.  [roll]  :P

I don't have a fairing either and I don't particularly like anything over 110. 140 wouldn't be fun at all.
ErkZ NOT in SLO w/ his '95 m900!
The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

Ahh yes, the S4, the perfect beginner bike, second only to the r6.

So is it a M900 or an S4?  Very different Monsters.
It's a Monster S4, as stated above, it was titled as a M900 S4, and I've also saw it refered to as such on the other Monster board.

Yes it was stupid, and yes I have gear. I was just seeing what the beast could do. I need to take him to the track for such beatings. Thank you, sincerely, for the concern. I think most of you would be quite proud of how I've progressed quite quickly in riding. Still, lot's to learn on the curves, and respect to be given to the power of my bike.

Depending on where you are, you can take a track school. They allow you to learn as much as possible in a safe environment, some of them even provide bikes for you, such as CSS. I'm not sure where in Miss you can find a good track school, though.

When you're starting to ride, taking your bike to the track roughly equates to 6 months of street riding experience. I have a 996 that has been relegated to track ho duty. I couldn't be happier.

Ride safe!

Now knowing that it's an S4 and not a 900, yes it should top out above what you're seeing.  (That's assuming that it has stock gearing.)

Before I added a slightly larger sprocket to the rear of mine, I saw 147 indicated once.

how you guys know how fast you went?

i cant look at the speedo above 110, thing come up to fast on ya...

go ride twisties, not slab...

+1  learn how to ride the thing.  Anyone can grab a handfull of throttle and go in a straight line.  You have to learn how to be smooth, use the brakes, corner and all that stuff.  A track day would do wonders for you and you will really begin to appreciate your Duc.  Make sure you have all the gear, not just a helmet.  If your have the urge to open that thing up, find a good stretch of deserted back country road.  Don't do it on the highway where there are other cars around or you may be labeled as a

+1 well put. And people are being too hard on the guy. I've cranked the throttle once or twice to see what it had myself. It's only natural. After you see what it's got then you've seen what it's got. Few intelligent people make it a habit on public roads what with all the jackass drivers pretending they don't see you.

off topic, but I've always wondered where the oil cooler was on the S4/916 bikes, is it omitted?

Nice bike, I like it, hope you enjoy it and remember to keep it shiny side up

Nope, no oil cooler from the factory on the S4.
