From a biz standpoint, they built 100,000 sqft new building.

The chopper market is in the crapper.

Better find a way to move cash/people through the building.

The (overly ornamental) chopper phase has run its course. The rich folk that caused the boom have largely moved on to the next fad.....

I've been watching the biz slowly go back to its roots to some degree, very small shops (or garages  ;) ) building one or two really cool one-of-a-kind bikes a year that are neat, trim, and minimalist. And fun to tear around on.

Meh.   I don't care what they build from a Duc...not like it's my own bike... and what someone else builds/buys/rides doesn't rise to the level of what I should really worry about.

Only way this effects me is the possibility of one or two more strange/weird questions/comments each year at the gas pump due to the slightly increased name recognition.   And that's a long shot.

I don't care what they sell or build.  Won't impact me either way.

From a branding perspective it should expose the public more to the Monster and Naked bikes Ducati makes since most hear Ducati and think superbike.  That would remove a few of the gas station questions.

Only real downside I see from a brand standpoint would be if those knuckleheads started modding a bike and then couldn't either get it running or keep it running.   If they screwed it up it would reinforce the old Ducati's aren't reliable or require a lot of work stereotypes.

2005 S2R -- Mods installed: DP termi full racing kit, ST4 Forks, S4R rear shock, 999 Radial Brake and Clutch MCs, 4 pot Brembo Calipers, 320mm Snowflake rotors, SBK Quick change carrier, 43T rear sproket, Tomaselli Clip Ons, Cyclecat Frame Sliders, ASV Levers, zero indicators, Supernova taillight

Huh.  FlightCycles made that move last year so I guess I'm ahead of the curve then...   [thumbsup]

Dooooood,

It's just another perspective. ;D

If the Teutuls can avoid their past performance...

we really don't want a fancy paintjob with nothing to back it up...

They'll market the hell out of Ducati.

Keep in mind...

well done...

is. ;)

I was just hackin on you about the VS part. Not sure what I think of OCC. They have a lot of backing to offer the Ducati brand. Will they do it right is what I'm wondering.  [moto]

I second that it is always a risk, I have seen some people really screw up the aftermarket car business.....

Most dealers my way don't carry much in gear as their spaces are very small.  And with the shear size OCC offers,  there is so much potential which I'm certain will be wasted!!!!

I understand what you are saying, but.......

If they are a licensed Ducati Dealer, I would imagine there are some levels of Ducati gear they will or have to stock just based upon franchising or however that business works. I can't imagine they wouldn't sell gear.

Secondly, who would really buy gear from a dealer anyway? Their shit is way overpriced.

it's nice to be able to try stuff on.   Playing the mail order return game gets old quick!
When I was up in Montreal last year,  there was a BMW/Harley dealer that had the biggest selection of  gear I had ever seen in one place, with very knowledgeable staff to boot.  The floor space for gear was bigger than the showroom/service areas combined  at shops in and near NYC.

I was pretty sure about that. [thumbsup]

It's a valid question.

Time will tell.

THE END IS NEAR!

Seriously.......It just seems like a really odd marriage.  But the Teutel's got their start in the industrial iron works business and they deliberately keep that whole side of the business seperate from the 3-ring circus that is OCC.  Just maybe (let's hope) they will decide to also run the Ducati business as a stand alone operation.

Like them or not they DO seem to know how to be successful.  We will have to wait and see.

Oh...and I can hardly wait to see those pizza pie wheels and olive shaped blinkers .  Mmmm...Tasty!   ;D

If Ducati hits mainstream US media, then yes..........OCC is to thank.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ducati actually approached OCC for this partnership.

What better way to make an attempt at larger US sales...............

We may never know if Ducati approached the OCC folks, but the people in Cupertino and/or Bologna certainly had to give the franchise agreement the green light.  We'll just have to trust their judgment and see how it plays out.

Despite the disparate motorcycle styles and Ducati purists' objections, OCC Customs and Ducati probably have similar buyer demographics.  What would be a better fit for the big OCC showroom?  Harley/Buell?  (never gonna happen)  Big Dog?  (no)  Triumph?  (maybe)  Aprilia?  (Piaggio would likely never go for it)  A Japanese brand? (no)

Of course we will never know, but I wouldn't be surprised due to what you listed after that.

From a demographic standpoint.........it is a nice fit.

after watching quite a few episodes of OCC, people or companys that they get involved with, they are very careful to project a positive image of said company. For them to be partnering with Duc, is going to do nothing but open peoples eyes to " our brand " in a positive way. And definitely push sales in the states.

until Ducati finally gets tired of something or another drops the partnership with OCC and then OCC starts talking shit.

you guys cant tell me that if you were in the business of selling anything motorcycle related you wouldnt want the potential sales that obnoxious OCC brand could generate.....anyone who says no is not truthful
